Need help with Xepha's Dynamic Weather

Why would you want to update FoMM? The 0.13.21 version is the latest version. Don't bother with that.

I tried just checking Xepha's Dynamic Weather. CRASH. Game won't even start.

You mean you tried checking the remastered compatibility patch for Xepha's Dynamic weather? If that is the case then it simply crashes because FO3 is still unable to locate Xepha's dynamic weather.

Let's clear up a misunderstanding here: Fallout Remastered - Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esp is not Xepha's dynamic weather itself. It's simply a compatibility patch to make Fallout Remastered and Xepha's dynamic weather work together properly. This patch relies upon Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esm, which Fo3 cannot locate in your case.

Why can't FoMM locate it? Because you have moved the entire folder to the Data directory.

Instead, here's what you should do:

1: Delete any and all dynamic weather folders which are currently in your Data directory.

2: Re-download Xepha's dynamic weather.

3: Unpack those folders with Winzip/winrar/etc.

4: Now you should have a folder called: "Dynamic_Weather_-_Main-10607-2-5". Correct? Open it.

5: There another folder in it called: "Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Main 2.5" Correct? Open this one as well.

6: Now you should be looking at 1 folder called "Textures" and 3 files; 1 is called: Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esm and 1 is called: Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Main.esp.

You'll also find a file called: "Xepha's Dynamic Weather 2.5 - ReadMe" That's the readme.

So, now that you have those in front of you, copy them all into you Data folder and allow any and all overwrites.

Repeat the above for the rest of Xepha's dynamic weather's plugins. Once you've done this, re-post your entire load order (which should include xepha's dynamic weather) here.

Ok! That worked! Although I'm still confused as to why all these esm's must be copied out of the directories into which they were compressed. All the other esm's for the all the other mods I've downloaded and extracted remain in the directories they were in once unzipped, which leads me to believe that I should move some other files as well.

For example, I have this directory in my Data folder:

DLC_Support-22672/Fellout-Optionals

and it contains

Fellout-Anchorage.esp

Fellout-BrokenSteel.esp

Fellout-pipboylight.esp

Fellout-PointLookout.esp

Fellout-Zeta.esp

Should all these esp's be copied out into my Data folder and the two folders deleted? I also have the Fallout_Remastered, Fallout_Remastered_-_Atmospheric Package-16928 and Fellout_Full directories with their esm's inside them still in my Data folder. All the esm's in these folders are also present in my Data folder as well. Can I delete all these directories? I also have the Greener_Grass-2672 folder with the textures/landscape/grass directories. Should I merge the textures folder with the one in my Data folder?

Anyway! Here's my new Load Order: BTW, where does the file go for "Copy to Clipboard" for FOMM? I've tried to find it, but if it's actually being saved somewhere it's hidden very well from a noob like me!

I'm curious about this "(NEE)" addition to the Rain and Anchorage esp's. I don't see any duplicate files in my Data folder. What do those mean?

I ran the Load Order Report and there's a couple of sentences that are interesting.

"Warning! Current load order template contains 351 duplicates."

I don't see how that could be since I only have the above files listed.

I understand why all Xepha's Dynamic Weather esp's are (inactive) since I haven't checked any of them yet, but there's also this message beneath each entry:

"The current load order of this mod does not match the current template."

The Load Order report recommends that I move all of Xepha's files before all of the Fallout - Remastered files.

Should I do that?

BTW, BlackRampage, I just want to thank you very much for your patience with my lack of knowledge in this process. I really appreciate it!

Indeed. Good thing you don't have too many mods just yet.

Yes.

If you indeed have duplicates of all of these in your Data folder too: Yes.

Anyway! Here's my new Load Order: BTW, where does the file go for "Copy to Clipboard" for FOMM? I've tried to find it, but if it's actually being saved somewhere it's hidden very well from a noob like me!

Ah. Well, the clipboard is where something gets "stored" when you copy something. Just try it out: Select "copy to clipboard", then open up Word or some other program that lets you type text and select "paste". (or copy it into a next post over here, for example)

You can also select "Export" in FoMM to save it to a .txt file right away. Then you can also simply open that file and copy the saved load order from there.

I'm curious about this "(NEE)" addition to the Rain and Anchorage esp's. I don't see any duplicate files in my Data folder. What do those mean?

Unsure. Probably just a new version of those files. Just ignore it.

"Warning! Current load order template contains 351 duplicates."

I don't see how that could be since I only have the above files listed.

Ignore it. Nothing wrong.

I understand why all Xepha's Dynamic Weather esp's are (inactive) since I haven't checked any of them yet, but there's also this message beneath each entry:

The Load Order report recommends that I move all of Xepha's files before all of the Fallout - Remastered files.

Should I do that?

Yes, you should. Re-arrange them exactly as your load order report recommends and you'll be good to go. I have found that FoMM's own load order report is rarely wrong when it comes to recommended load orders.

I dl'd and installed Xepha's Darkened Interiors per your recommendation. If I find them TOO dark, then I should just delete it from the FOMM Load Order and the Data Folder?

Once that's done, I can check all the remaining boxes and fire it up?

Again, thanks so much for your kindly assistance!

I will wait to delete the esm's you specified until I know exactly how to do that before checking the remaining ones and running the game.

When I delete the esm's you recommended, will they be deleted from the Load Order only or will FOMM also delete them from the Data folder? If not, I'm assuming I should manually delete them from the Data folder.

They're actually .esp's, but yes: If you delete them in FoMM, it will also remove them from your Data folder.

I dl'd and installed Xepha's Darkened Interiors per your recommendation. If I find them TOO dark, then I should just delete it from the FOMM Load Order and the Data Folder?

Excellent. Same as above though. Deleting them in FoMM will also remove them from the data folder.

And don't forget to keep "Fallout Remastered - Xepha's Darkened Interiors.esp" in your load order when you play FO3 with Darkened interiors.

In the unlikely event that you would find darkened interiors TOO dark: Don't forget to delete "Fallout Remastered - Xepha's Darkened Interiors.esp". Otherwise your game will crash at startup.

Once that's done, I can check all the remaining boxes and fire it up?

Correct.

And your load order is just fine btw (aside from the changes I recommended earlier of course)

Good luck!

If you find the interiors too dark, make sure you disable both interiors and the compatibility patch. Otherwise they'll get switched back on and you're back at square one ;)

Ok, you mean delete these files:

[ ] Xepha's Darkened Interiors.esp

[ ] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - OA.esp

[ ] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - BS.esp

[ ] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - PL.esp

and this file:

[ ] Fallout Remastered - Xepha's Darkened Interiors.esp

Correct?

Thank goodness FOMM accomplishes both!

Well, drat!

After deleting the unnecessary mods and running another Load Order report, here's my latest Load Order:

[X] Fallout3.esm

[X] Anchorage.esm

[X] ThePitt.esm

[X] StreetLights.esm

[X] BrokenSteel.esm

[X] PointLookout.esm

[X] Zeta.esm

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esm

[X] GNR Enhanced.esp

[X] Fellout-pipboylight.esp

[X] Fellout-Full.esp

[X] Night Vision Sunglasses.esp

[X] Fellout-Anchorage.esp

[X] Fellout-BrokenSteel.esp

[X] Fellout-PointLookout.esp

[X] Fellout-Zeta.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - OA.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - BS.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - PL.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Main.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Anchorage.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - The Pitt.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Broken Steel.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Point Lookout.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Night Eye Edition.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Anchorage (NEE).esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Rain (NEE).esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Rain.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Sandstorm.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Dynamic Sneak Bonus.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered - Fellout.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered - Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered - Xepha's Darkened Interiors.esp

I tried to run the game and it crash while loading. Troubleshooting time! I'm assuming I should un-check all the new mods and see if I can start the game, and then try just Dynamic Weather before adding Darkened Interiors? Not sure how to proceed because I don't know how these mods interact.

My current save game is in Point Lookout, but I'm guessing that doesn't matter?

After some testing I've narrowed it down to Xepha's Dynamic Weather mods. I can run the game successfully with these mods selected:

[X] Fallout3.esm

[X] Anchorage.esm

[X] ThePitt.esm

[X] StreetLights.esm

[X] BrokenSteel.esm

[X] PointLookout.esm

[X] Zeta.esm

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esm

[X] GNR Enhanced.esp

[X] Fellout-pipboylight.esp

[X] Fellout-Full.esp

[X] Night Vision Sunglasses.esp

[X] Fellout-Anchorage.esp

[X] Fellout-BrokenSteel.esp

[X] Fellout-PointLookout.esp

[X] Fellout-Zeta.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - OA.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - BS.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - PL.esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Main.esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Anchorage.esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - The Pitt.esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Broken Steel.esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Point Lookout.esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Night Eye Edition.esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Anchorage (NEE).esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Rain (NEE).esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Rain.esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Sandstorm.esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Dynamic Sneak Bonus.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered - Fellout.esp

[ ] Fallout Remastered - Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered - Xepha's Darkened Interiors.esp

Troubleshooting time! My current save game is in Point Lookout, inside the People's Bank. I recall reading that it was recommended that after installing Xepha's Dynamic Weather, you should start from a save game in an interior location. If that's not the cause of the startup crash, which files should I select first so that I can continue to narrow down the problem? I'm going to try selecting just Xepha's Main, Point Lookout and the Fallout-Remasterd compatibility patch and see what happens.

Allright! I'm closing in pretty quickly! I've narrowed the issue down to the Rain and Rain (NEE) mods. Here is my latest Load Order:

[X] Fallout3.esm

[X] Anchorage.esm

[X] ThePitt.esm

[X] StreetLights.esm

[X] BrokenSteel.esm

[X] PointLookout.esm

[X] Zeta.esm

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esm

[X] GNR Enhanced.esp

[X] Fellout-pipboylight.esp

[X] Fellout-Full.esp

[X] Night Vision Sunglasses.esp

[X] Fellout-Anchorage.esp

[X] Fellout-BrokenSteel.esp

[X] Fellout-PointLookout.esp

[X] Fellout-Zeta.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - OA.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - BS.esp

[X] Xepha's Darkened Interiors - PL.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Main.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Anchorage.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - The Pitt.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Broken Steel.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Point Lookout.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Night Eye Edition.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Anchorage (NEE).esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Rain (NEE).esp

[ ] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Rain.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Sandstorm.esp

[X] Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Dynamic Sneak Bonus.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered - Fellout.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered - Xepha's Dynamic Weather.esp

[X] Fallout Remastered - Xepha's Darkened Interiors.esp

I can start and play the game perfectly from my People's Bank save game. I venture outside and all is well. Game will crash on start-up with either or both Rain mods selected.

On a side note, after running a Load Order report, I noticed this one error message:

Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Night Eye Edition.esp

! "this plugin conflicts with 'xepha's dynamic weather - night eye edition.esp'

Weird! I know it has nothing to with my current mod load problem, but it's kinda funny!

Going for a nice long walk with my wife on this lovely but windy SF Bay Area Saturday. I look forward to more troubleshooting advice when we get back!
