Storage

Does anyone else think the storage in Skyrim houses is crap? There are useless crates and barrels all over the place, trying to separate out all your loot is a nightmare. I just bought the house in Solitude hoping for better storage and what do I get in the cellar, 2 barrels in 1 room that work and about a dozen dead crates just clutter the room up. You have to wander all over the house looking for places to put things, it's just stupid. :wallbash:

They have included some really cool mod ideas from Oblivion eg. bookcase you can put books in, mannequins, weapon racks that are too small, but nice.

I own the Breeze house in Whiterun and after dressing it up, seem to have plenty of storage, two storage chests, and some cupboards. Now the question is...how much will these things store? I'm sitting on a lot of valuable items I would like to sell, but the merchants never seem to have enough money (another subject so I won't go into that.) But so far, I'm very happy with the storage that I have. I wish we could buy additional storage chest for our houses, that would be nice.

I know what you are saying, but I would rather have the storage for loot in one place and not run up and down stairs in and out of all the rooms looking for cupboards and bedside tables, especially in a house that has a cellar. I've got the Breeze house in Whiterun as well, but all there is that is convenient is 1 barrel on top of about 3 boxes under the stairs.

What do you mean 'dressing it up'? I seem to spend the first few visits there picking up stuff that falls over or off tables and sticking it in cupboards to get rid of it and getting rid of stupid decoration eg. a cabbage in a bowl in the entrance hall of one house, who on earth puts cabbages and veg in bowls all over the house to dress it up Bethesda must be hard up for ideas.

Wrong choice of words on my part, dressing it up referring to 'redecorating' I bought all the 'upgrades' for house I could from the Jarl's Stewart.

When you eventually meet up with Delphine in the Riverwood Inn (and get access to the basement) in the main quest, you can safely store your items in the chests there. I stored just about everything I owned in there until I moved to Lund's Hut some 30 or so hours later. It's easily accessible, and fairly early into the main quest.

Does anyone else have a problem that nothing I put on tables stays there? It's like there's an earthquake every time I leave the house. The first time I thought I had been robbed because a pile of gems I had built up had inexplicably exploded all over the room.

Same here, I've given up trying to put my own stuff on tables, although I did read here, that when you place something for the first time it will fall off or explode, but if you position it again it stays put, the problem for me is I don't have the patience for it. I do enjoy displaying my collection of weapons etc, but forget tidying up exploding clutter.

Thanks for sharing that, it's will be handy for my next playthrough.

I store my loot in Breezehome - there is plenty of storage but I miss a category filter. So I keep all weapons in one chest downstairs, apparel in the bedroom chest, amulets, gems etc in the bedside tables, ingredients in the dresser downstairs, and books in the cupboard beside the fire. Oh and the barrel for sundries like ores and ingots. It's time consuming to keep all this organised - I'm just waiting for a decent UI mod that I hope will sort this out. It's terribly inelegant as-is - waaay too much scrolling.
