How does the new HairColor_LGrad_d.dds work?

Nuka World has introduced new hair dyes. I've got a pretty personalised HairColor_LGrad_d.dds used with Zella's Hair Dye Collection. Now, Nuka World has given us a new HairColor_LGrad_d.dds. The old one was 64x512 and it was fairly easy to see how the colours corresponded to hairstyles, but the new one is 512x64 and seems to be fairly different in how the mesh uses the texture. Has anyone played around with it yet?

 

Edit: Turns out Bethesda Archive Extractor was the problem. Didn't realise the Creation Kit came with it's own archive extractor I should be using. Ignore all of this!
