after seeing and hearing what's been going on at bethesda's forums i have my doubts about that. i hope i'm wrong... however i've seen it happen more than once to companies that were at one time good, or I held in favor.

i try to avoid using the console, at all. game killing bugs can be caused by doing so. and i'm not saying it sucks, i'm saying i hate it because i like it and can't play it right now. understandable no?

For me, Skyrim isn't anything special. It feels like just another game, and I was mostly bored with it throughout my journey. The Thieves Guild was entertaining, but other than that nothing really stands out (and I've completed every quest for every guild I've joined, which felt like a chore 90% of the time). It feels uninspired.

The environment just doesn't express itself as beautiful and well crafted, save for a few instances (compared to both Morrowind and Oblivion), and it mostly feels dull. There's a serious lack of depth, interesting quests, and interesting NPCs (even combat isn't intriguing to me). I'm glad to see a large number of people really finding this a special experience, unfortunately I don't.

I've been playing less and less every day for a couple weeks now. In fact, I haven't touched it in 2 days, and I've gone back to playing older RPGs.

I'm not going to debate on matters of opinion, but I am somewhat curious as to why some people seem to be treating the OP so hard for stating her opinion. It's a forum to discuss the game after all. There's no obligation that says we can only talk about positive things. She spent 4 weeks playing the game, which, in my opinion is more than enough time to make a well formed opinion about the game. If she says she hates it, then it's her right. Those that disagrees need not feel annoyed since a person's opinion should not take anything away from you. When someone feels the need to talk about their frustration it's in the hopes of attracting like minded people who may sympathize and feel the same way. Those that disagree, well fine. I'm sure there are other threads where you can discuss the brilliance and virtues of the game.

Let's give the OP a break. She doesn't like the game. That's alright.

There's a big difference between the market of 2002 and todays market. The game industry has become more competitive since then with smaller independant studios being swallowed up by the big fish. The entrepreneurs of the business have been replaced by suits who only look at the buck. Therefore every company tries to reach all gaming platforms simultaneously thereby losing the grip of what their core audience actually expects. And they lose out in the quality department.

I still maintain, Bethesda has created one of the better games I had the dubious honor of experiencing these past years, But Skyrim suffers from the same problems the other games have suffered from. Lack of detail, its what the companies call "streamlining", and lack of quest design and/or quality in the writing department. All the studios try to play the action card, always looking at the sales figures of COD, in the vain hope of capturing that audience. Without any regard to the fact that the COD crowd is something entirely different, based mainly on the multiplayer aspects and a totally different setting.

The core problem, not only with Bethesda, is the reduction to the lowest common denominator. That's the beer gobbling couch potato with reading difficulties. And that's what streamlining actually means.

well, we all waiting months for skyrim to come out. we watched every tiny video, gnawed on each minute morsel of information they gave us. now, after 4 weeks of playing, i want my Morrowind back.

skyrim is, to put it simply, the worst elder scrolls game ever released. it is a screwup on a remarkable scale. Having produced morrowind, bethesda's technique since then has been to REMOVE features, REMOVE content, leaving us with . . well, this load of crap. Fable 2.5.

im posting here for one simple reason: posting on the official forums is impossible, due to frantic incompetence on bethesda's part. theyve lost a customer in me. the 1.2 patch cluster is just the straw that broke this camel's back.

i know there are others that feel this way. im confident bethesda doesnt care; its just another one of the pack now. just another indifferent and stupid game company that churns out poorly-executed drivel. they might be the worst of them, because they USED to be so good.

soo....if you don't like it that much any chance I could get your copy (hoping that you didn't break it at the least) cause I'd really like to play it. You could think of it like a christmas gift... xD

Presumably, this is all my fault. Since Fallout 3 came along and was everything I could more or less ask from a post-apocalyptic RPG, I've got this theory that Bethesda must know who I am and develops their game for me personally. Well, that's what it feels like with Skyrim. And I honestly think that cutting things that doesn't work very well and streamline things that wants to be more is a good idea. Maybe it's depth to be utterly confused by what does what and having to rely on big, lovely spreadsheats, but it's not what I'm very fond of seeing.

Suppose I just won the design philosophy lottery. :teehee:
