xlr8films
So, I'm walking along the road from Darkwater Crossing on my way to Ivarstead. Just kind of rambling my way there. And here comes a "Nord" on the road calling me a 'milk-drinker.' I happen to like milk. It does a Vampire good. So I kill her, just like I do all the others that assume milk is bad for me. Then I get the message in the post title, which I'd never seen before. Or maybe I've just missed them previously. Ok... I'm in Eastmarch territory. But I didn't have a prior bounty there or anywhere for that matter. I was just at Darkwater Crossing which is a mini-Stormcloak camp and none of them were saying they knew me or acting like I had a bounty. What's the dealio here? STSG
You attacked the Nord. She witnessed your crime in assaulting her and was planning to report you to guards to give you 40 gold bounty, but since you killed her she couldn't
xlr8films
Did this (these) message(s) start appearing after the patch or have I missed them all along?
STSG
I don't have the 1.2 patch and I see them. Not very often though. Most of pple you kill are hostile so you don't get a bounty for that. Edited December 3, 2011 by STSG

Yeah I think the difference (with my approach) is I normally run through the dialogue where I tell them to back off or else, which I always fail even with a high Speech. Then they attack and I don't see the message. But this last time with the Nord, I heard 'milk-drinker', hit TAB out of the convo and just laid her out. That's probably why... Patronus
The problem is when you don't see this message. As a Thalmor hater, I kill every single Thalmor I can without getting a bounty. usually I kill their patrols on the roads. But recently I killed another their patrol and was left with a bounty. There was noone around except for my follower, Mjoll. Can she be considered a witness? I think that'd be odd.
xlr8films
Maybe we're back to where we were with Oblivion, only this time it was that Moose up in the hills you didn't notice that turned you in.

But I surely know that the prisoners that Thalmors escort are also considered witnesses. At least, when I attacked the Thalmor patrol without setting him free first, I had the bounty until I killed that prisoner as well. Like he would turn to the guards the guy who has just saved him. I tried to set the prisoner free first - but then he's killed very quickly.
