What i would like to no from all you older gamers is how much time do you put in to your gameing..???? a week.

Well, if we ignore the last couple of weeks since Skyrim was released, I get around 5-6 hours of gaming in per week. The confluence of Thanksgiving holidays and my wife spending a week out of town resulted in a 15x multiplier in hours spent. I beat the main quest line the day she got home, just in time!
One the good parts of my life is im not marred and out of work so all my time is playing games 24/7 ;)

We should start a group called " The Greybeards ". That should cover the old ladies too  ( I'm going to get flak for that one I can tell )

I'm 54 and also remember playing PONG in pubs when it first came out in the 70's. Space invaders was a phenom. I remember one arcade had about 30 machines on the go and you could hear every sound effect in the game all at the same time when everyone was playing. Deafening. Sinclair's spectrum used to have its own magazine where you could copy code into the machine to play games. Took me 4 days to write one game into my Spectrum, and then it wouldn't work. Bought the Commodore 64 asap.

Love Elder Scrolls in all manifestations and I am in awe of all modders who make this game so much better. My thanks. Where would I be without my ridiculously overpowered staffs and swords? Just love scything through dungeons and taking on whole armies single handed. ( have a field day, shrinks )

I know I had to do something else this morning..........what was it?.....

I'm 53 and I've played games since the Spectrum...

However Elder Scrolls are the only 'real time action' games I've played.

And unlike all you types I am a grade A cowardy-custard and possibly the worst fighter the world has ever known! Skyrim scares me half to death on a 5- minute basis, or thereabouts. Needless to say, I'm playing on the easiest level and am waiting for mods that make it ...well, maybe just a touch easier still. Which I did in Morrowind and Oblivion. :P

For me, minimising the combat element helps me cope with the "jumpy" side of things without actually having a heart attack... At the moment, my nerves only seem to cope for a couple of hours. Is it me, or is this game scarier than Oblivion was?? (Or did I just forget how that made me jump)

(Actually the one thing I remember most clearly about Oblivion was the Thieves Guild khajiit appearing suddenly on my screen after a rest. I screamed out loud and my mouse went flying clear across the room! If Elder Scrolls were films, wild horses wouldn't make me watch them. And yet... I'm addicted. Weird!) ;)

I'd love to see a video of you playing amnesia:the dark descent.

I played the Amnesia demo, in broad daylight, in the livingroom with 4 other people, who were highly entertained by my reactions. I did not buy the game. :psyduck:

Y'know.... I just possibly might give that one a miss!! :D

My long-term game is an MMO - Lord of the Rings online. In that game, I'm the leader of a kinship called ....The Elders! ;) Our average age is around 42 last time I checked, and lots of us in our 50s.

In answer to another question, I probably play about 20 hours a week on average. That can go up when something like Skyrim or a new update for LOTRO comes out. It goes down when I'm a bit bored with what's around.

Sixty-three year old gamer here.

Been at it since the early 80's...earlier than that if you want to count PONG :)

One of the great things about today's games is character creation...I get to play as the hottie I used to be

Have fun!

Ain't that the truth! I"m a 62-year-old guy flirting with the young bar maids again!

I also want to point out that, being my age amid all the technical wonders of our day, I feel as though I am literally living in the future. I grew up with black-and-white TV and the mind-boggling invention of the transistor radio. I am just grateful to be able to be here and play such an amazing game experience.

64 here.

Way back when I remember the local bars had pong and and foosball...it was a blast.

Went thru all the Zelda series, still have a super nintendo and /cube stashed away somewhere.

Played Fable, I,II,III till I had all the lines memorized..............my kids did an intervention and forced me over to

Oblivion!! LOL

I absolutely love this this latest version. Dont care about the patch screwups, dont care about the CTD or all the other issues.

This game is FUN!!!

I am enjoying the PC version and the Xbox360 version......................

Cant wait for TESA to start offering mod classes again.

So.............to all of you out there.......Play on and dont sweat the small stuff. Life is too short already.

44 years old here, having a great time reading the posts, its nice to find a mature thread.

I remember my dad bringing home a contraption called Pong and hooking it up to the television back in the late 70s. Here were these pixelated paddles on the TV and we were in control, I was in awe.

I remember a game called Dragons Lair hitting the arcades when I was in high school. The line was usually so long that I had to content myself with watching others play which may not have been a bad thing considering the cost of play and the seeming difficulty. It was the first time I had seen an animated video game and I was in awe.

In 1984 I got my first job working for my girlfriends father at his computer store. They were nice enough to allow me to take home an Apple Macintosh on occasion, it had its own carrying case and a graphical user interface with some weird new thing called a mouse, I was in awe.

Not so long ago I was roaming the Capital Wasteland of Fallout3 one evening and was stumped on a quest so I went to Youtube in search of answers. What I found I couldnt believe my eyes, characters that I knew from countless hours of wasteland travels were dancing, yes dancing. How could this be? I followed the links that lead me to Nexus and discovered a plethora of mods, images, and community of people who also enjoy gaming, and I am in awe.

I know the feeling. Even as a programmer who kept up with the progress, it's still freakin' amazing that we are living in the future...

Some of us oldsters pine for the good old days. Me, I hope I live forever because every year it's a new adventure in amazement! I can't wait to see how it all turns out.. and then again each year after!

excellent posts, I am 50 and a half (going on 18 again...!!!) have been gaming on computers since I cut my teeth on an old Atari console type and an old BBC `B', `those were the days' trying to load a program from a tape recorder which always failed dismally..!

anyway, i digress, as ex military i have tended to go with the FPS type games but lately I have played Two Worlds, and the Gothic series. must say TES could learn from both these series as far as combat is concerned, especially being able to run down your opponent whilst on horseback and attack with a nice long sword from above and see their head cave in....wicked....(ooops blood lust is up, better take a nap)

totally agree, can we have our own forum heading please for the over 40's...???

Wow, this thread is just awesome.

I am a woman and I will turn 56 in January. I started my career in the computer business in 1981, but was interested in computers already earlier. My first computer was a Rockwell AIM 65 with 4 Kbyte memory. Programming was done in entering hex-codes and the display consisted of a LED display like those of the first pocket calculators. Later on, I had a VC20 and built my own 16 Kbyte memory extension. For the Z80 I wrote a program called "Exocet", reflecting the danger of missiles in the falkland crisis. Hell, thats all so long ago... I was always working with computers.

Yes I know the PDP-8 and the VAX series too, since I worked for Digital Equipment. It was exciting to see how computers and programs became more and more powerful. And with every chip generation new computer games hit the market. I know a lot of them. For a long time I loved MMORPGS - the one I played for the longest time (6 years) was Dark Age of Camelot. However, the gaming community changed over the last years - and often not to the better side (rude, blatant, selfish people are almost everywhere) so I eventually focused on games like TES. I must admit, that I absolutely love Skyrim - its just awesome. I will certainly play this game for a long time.

The mod which I would really love, would be a mod which allows to have adventures with other players from the Skyrim forum - like the "Gray Beards". Just like some sort of a mini-network. Anyway, there is still this forum and I read new posts almost daily.

I really appreciate this topic. Im 46 and Im really enjoying Skyrim. I played Morrowind and explored every inch of the map and did every quests. I played Obilivion a few hours but just couldnt get into it. Before first reading this thread I was playing on "adept" difficulty. But seeing that a lot of my peers playing on "expert" and above I thought I needed to step it up. lol. So now Im playing on "expert" and using only light armor. Loving the game even more! You guys rock! Also loving the modding community. Keep up the great work! Edited by Eguys
