El`derina
You almost hit the mark in my opinion, apart from the bold text. you make a good point... but there is so much more to it than that... place quest markers and better map details in morrowind and most people wouldn't notice much other than it was alittle less annoying to find most things.im not too sure how I feel about it myself, either way... I enjoyed morrowind as it was tho. bethesda actually pointed out themselves at one point how morrowind was so exotic compared to the normal plain looking imperial style of oblivion.that exoctic feel goes a long ways, making a lot of things which are actually rather plain and simple(if you lived and grew up there) look to be something more than it was... Skyrim now,... it brought a lot of exotic feel,.. or more of a half-exoctic feel and what it did with it was nearly nothing... so they plopped a ton of random locations around that looked great and different and whatnot, and it just felt,... dead. like no one in the world knew or cared that their backyard sported an undead graveyard...I remember taking off on the road in morrowind and knowing I had a nice long walk before I was runing into any big ruins or anything because that would just be unreal right outside town... yet oblivion and Skyrim? its a rather common sight and everyone treats it as normal... What happens? I give up, because everyone else in my world apparently already has.
Thoreai
or are we guilty of being spoilt for choice for years by mods hosted on sites such as Nexus? You almost hit the mark in my opinion, apart from the bold text. I'd say we are spoiled by MORROWIND (Yes I'm a fanboy, sue me ;) ). Ok, the combat was quite simple but atleast you had a feel for your char, every char you made was different given the way you played (simply put: fighter, thief or mage and anything in between). I don't know where it started for the rest of any games, but Oblivion was the "from here we dumb down our games because else kids won't buy them because they cry it's too difficult"-point for me. Back then: You're off the ship. Goodluck! Now: Go here, now go there, follow that guy, hey I have an awesome weapon for you *giggle*. Back then: Yeah there's this cave west of Ald'Ruhn, there is some guy hiding there. Find him (west being the entire area of north to south of Ald'ruhn. Distance? Unknown.)Now: Go to this place (shown on map, with a huge arrow at it), there's a guy named X, tell him to do this or that and you're done! I had a lot of more rant to type, but it's 2:38 (AM) here and the beer is working. I hope you know what I'm trying to get at in the stuff mentioned above ;)I agree to a point here, but im always asking myself, why making a beutifull rich world filled with puppets...or without any impact...it kinda negates the reason why it was made if you know what i mean. Also expecting better isnt only coming from being spoiled, it comes from progression of the game industry itself wich is the latter, as El`derina mentioned...therefore you expect some sort of progression...pointing here especially at combat. Moredhel
Moredhel: Is it Morrowind or is it just a tendancy to see past happy memories through rose tinted spectacles?Funny you mention that, I heard that quite a lot :D No, I really REALLY like Morrowind, it's the best game I've ever played! When I get tired of Skyrim or any other game that's gonna come out soon (SWTOR, ME3) I'll pick it up again and start all over using no mods at all. Ahhhh, getting Fargoth's ring, getting killed by a cliffracer on my way to Balmora, being Lord Indoril Nerevar again :D Fargoth my you bring back the memories he was such a loon, that crazy wood elf Glarthir in Oblivion's Skingrad reminded me of him, that was a great quest. For me it was Baldur's Gate 2 that I have true RPG nostalgia for, loved that game still do, still play it to this day.Glarthis... oh yeah, that psycho idiot! I never met him after dark tho, I was too busy doing other stuff (especially for the dark brotherhood, their addition to the game was one of the coolest things Bethesda did afaik!) FastBlackCat
Despite the fact I'm enjoying Skyrim because I love to explore and loot, the game has been leaving me feeling . . . well, flat. I don't have a lot connection to my character, and the PC's character doesn't seem to have a whole lot of impact on the world. It's kind of going from point A to point B, loot this cave, finish this task, but it doesn't have a whole lot of meaning to the Skyrim world and to me personally. And there's no connection to other NPC's. I miss the character interaction of DAO and TW2, which invested me in the games more.

And it will be so out of control that we will hate it! lol.... okay, this player did that quest and pissed me off? DARK BROTHERHOOD!! darthsloth74
El'derina: What worries me is not so much the randomness of it all but the similarity to other things. Ride a horse past Whiterun over the plains and the first time I did I thought I was in Rohan and looking at Edoras. The style of the guards etc so very LOTR. Whereas up in the mountain forests with all the snow its like the beginning of Conan, the original film not that dodgy remake. In regard to your last post Radiant story was just an overhyped lie. pavy: That is a question I have always asked at least in Bioware games when they offer one line responses it doesn't bother you because they're not important to the over bearing drive of the story. FastBlackCat: They leave me feeling flat too eventually but Skyrim has come faster its one redeeming feature is I enjoy walking around the realm more. It makes me sad in ways because we all sound a lot like spoilt kids who weren't that happy with their Xmas present, though I ask myself if issues that are unrelated to this post are to blame for a lot. Forced DRM stealth downloads, an even buggier update than release. Having said that even if they'd got it right it still wouldn't satisfy everyone because of its overly generic nature. Moredhel
From what I've read here (but not experienced myself yet) is that the ending is just as bleak as Oblivion: you kill the bad guy and nobody knows or gives a s***, which is sad :ermm: The end of Morrowind was like: OMG ITS NEREVAR! IM A VIRGIN BUT PLEASE TAKE ME! YOU'RE THE HERO! U know? The feeling that you were THE MAN and everyone knew and loved you for it! It's just that which I'm missing in Skyrim. I'm the man who killed Jarl Ulfric. Does anyone know? Tullius does, so does Rikke. The rest? Nah, they still talk like Ulfric is alive, or they see me as a citizen. Even the goddamn legionnaires say "problem, citizen?" when I approach them. s*** is bleak, yo! Edited December 4, 2011 by Moredhel
darthsloth74
Moredhel: I know that drives me nuts total lack of respect for your station. I became Legate and its like "I don't think you need to be here." WHAT? Give that legionary 500 lashes. Skyrim is oh so bleak of course it doesn't help given the size of the communites. Solitude is practically a hamlet when you compare it with Vivec, actually Solitudes probably about as big as Ebonheart.

Be it so or not this is a good discussion and i find myself agreeing woth both sides. Moredhel: I know that drives me nuts total lack of respect for your station. I can't stand every single person carbon copied phrases of me!" bethesda has a habit of killing off certain things completely when peoples reaction to it is negative....one thing I have been trying to preach is, "it isnt the inclusion of an element that is ruining the game, its the implementation of that element."which I think would fit here.
