I think that Nexus has already driven custom to Beth through modding, the sales figures for Skyrim are very high and I know that future mods were a major decision maker for me to buy the game much earlier than I would have done, having modded my previous Oblivion. My fear is that Beth have seen that Nexus is a good thing for them and will try to control their games copyright and content within the Steam bubble and as someone else said earlier, profit from it. Nexus, I guess, is a copyable business model and I wonder whether Beth could kill it off in the long term perhaps by only allowing mods to be created in a way that fits in with their rules and marketing strategy (Is DRM control possible?). I hope not because as things stand a lot of people have produced some brilliant work and made my life that little bit better.

Nexus will always be more popular because Steam will never allow the nude bodies and other pornographIc mods.

I prefer the term "Artistic Freedom".

Other than that, yes you've got a point. Steam is much more on Focus and reputation is extremely important for them. They will surely have strong regulations on what can or can not be published on their site. It will be much like itunes.

I would not even go so far to mention your so called "nude Pornography". They will draw the line much much sooner than that.

Although the Nexus also has some rules and wont allow everything (mostly understandable though) they will still be much more "open minded", which is a good thing.

P.S. just for the records, mods that depict "nudeness" or other potentially "politically incorrectness" have been already discussed to death. Bottom line, its a mod, its under the "adult" section and you are absolutely and without further consequence allowed to completely ignore them. If some minors get their hands on those, then be sure that those minors already have their hands on much much harder stuff and if parents allowed them to come thus far than there is something gone wrong way sooner than that.

What also will keep people coming to Nexus are the non-standard mods. I mean the ones like SKSE or Script dragon ... I just can't imagine Steam offering any way to install either of that. So they either have to link back to nexus(or another side for those) or deal with flame why certain mods don't work.

And the nudity part may be bigger then it seems on first glance, because at least in Oblivion many third party bodies became the standard for armor mods ... will they not have those mods or cut up the body mods to only have non-nudity versions? What if they don't get the permission to host the base body mod?

Yes there is the prospect of body mods becoming the standard for armor mods. However It may likely be that the standard form in Skyrim is used more often, as they did a great job on it, plus the only body mod I've seen out is that CBBE mod, which makes every female look like a 40yr old with three kids.

Then as mentioned before, the script extender is standard for all beths games when it comes to in-depth mods, you can not make a complex mod without it.

Then to top that off Steam does not regulate people for unseemly behavior on forum posts and such.

Yeah in his video he has also suggested that steam won't be allowing ALL mods that people come up with.

Nexus deal with some more "interesting" content here and that likely won't change, thus nexus will always have a niche and remain relevant.

I've never modded, but intend to once the creation kit comes out, I will release here for sure.

While I do enjoy the body retextures and aluring armors here, I really dont like the idea of the nexus becoming known as a smut mod site.

Why would it?

I mean, why should that steam adventure suddenly become popular? Chances are, only fortune seekers looking for ways to make a quick buck will post there.
