uhmattbravo
Download and install GECK for either or both games from here: http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php?title=Main_Page Adding, replacing, and moving objects (including buildings) that are already in the base game is a pretty easy place to start. Also read through their "my first vault" tutorial to learn the basics. Don't skip the navmesh section, it'll be important if you're adding new buildings. JoKelly
first you need blender or some other modeling program. moving an asset from one game to another, can be a pain, especially since the formats are almost certain to be different. your best bet would be to hit some of the free CGI model sites, like CGTrader or TF3dm, both have all kinds of building models as well as other models you might want to use. Download what ever file type your modeling program can import, make what ever changes you like, lay out the UV map, set up the materials and textures then export as .NIF file. The biggest problem you might have will be collision meshes. Moving it into the geck and the game is pretty easy. and if your determined to make a large map make SCOL's of like objects. Say you lay down a hundred sidewalk tiles, you want to combine them into one object by making them a SCOL.
Deleted1205226User
first you need blender or some other modeling program. I don't think modeling is the first step in modding. Get the GECK, as advised in the second post, try to get familiar with it and make some changes in your game, like replacing structures.Start simple. The second step would be: to be familiar with NifSkope, an essential tool to manipulate .nifs your best bet would be to hit some of the free CGI model sites, like CGTrader or TF3dm Not a good advice unless you want people to risk a ban.Quoted from Micalov (staff member):"Please do not use TF3DM for resources in your mods. Just thought I would bring it up since yet another mod with assets from the site that was ripped from another game had to be removed. 90% of the stuff on this site is assets ripped from other games so its not legit to use most the time for mods." JoKelly
his question was about how to place new assets into the game, not about modding in general. hence the suggestion to get blender or another modeling program. Thanks for the info about TF3dm, I wasn't aware of that.
Deleted1205226User
Replacing one asset in the game by another Vanilla asset or adding a custom one (Resource or home made) is done with the GECK. It seems logical (and advisable) to me to learn how to do that before learning how to create 3D object.
