NMC textures not loading

I created a fresh install of new vegas and am currently trying to install nmcs texture pack,

when i start up the game there are still only default textures.

I tried using archive invalidation invalidated but that does not work

I also tried unchecking read only on my fallout.ini but it seems to recheck itself. not sure if this has anything to do with the problem.

I'm betting you installed Steam to the default "C:\Program Files" folder tree? If so, that's your problem. Read the "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" article in my signature, and move it. Official Steam procedure is linked in that article (which tells you that Steam agrees it was a poor choice of location).

I lost my bet  ? Oh well, here's your cookie.

The "read only" (RO) attribute is getting reset because the folder it is in is inheriting it's permissions from the parent folder, which is likely getting them from it's parent, all the way back up to the drive itself. You can't really get around this with a "system protected" tree like "Program Files", but you will be able to break the "inherit from parent" property in some folder on your J: drive. This is explained here. (The basics haven't changed.)

Be aware that Windows ignores the "read only" attribute on folders themselves. It only pays attention to the files within the folder. But, files may inherit the RO attribute and prevent being replaced. In which case you need to reset/remove the RO flag from the contents of the game folder and subfolders.

Now, as to your problem with NMC: need to clarify a few things.

How did you install the mod, as in which mod manager or manually?

How are you managing "ArchiveInvalidation": through a mod manager or an addon (mod) or by the obsolete method of editing the INI file?

Are you able to confirm (by comparing files in the Data\Textures folders and the archive) that NMC files were copied to the correct locations? (And we've circled back to the "attribute/permissions" issue.)

Archive invalidation is required. It should be togglable through your mod manager.

Im using nexus mod manager. i have archive invalidation checked in nmm as well as using the program called "archive invalidation invalidated" I installed the mod through nexus mod manager.

All the texture files seem to be in the games folders as well.

Using both the built in Archive Invalidation and the standalone Archive Invalidation file does not work. They will cancel each other. You can use only one.

When adding or changing any textures in the game, you must toggle (turn off - turn on) archive invalidation in order for the new or changed textures to be displayed.

ah ive been using both in case one of them did not work. i guess i should have expected this.

I tried using the program individually but it still didnt work, then i tried using the nmm archive invalidation and it said access was denied

EDIT: ran as administrator and that fixed it but textures still arent showing up.

Hmm. I notice we haven't asked you where you installed the game. To the default "C:\Program Files\Steam" folder tree perhaps? If so, please read the "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" article in my signature, and move it.

If you haven't already, uninstall the "archive invalidation invalidated" addon. Then toggle the NMM "archiveInvalidation" again.
