kmgrey1
I don't know if this is normal or an LOD issue or what but a lot of the mountains in the game look like this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/IIe2AF0.png. Look at the closest range- it has a nasty brown color signficantly darker than normal dirt/sand and the rocks are jutting out with zero transition. I know that FO:NV is no looker but this just looks really off to me and I'm wondering if I have a texture issue or something else with my install. What do you think? dubiousintent
That is a "View While Distant/Level of Detail" (VWD/LOD) issue. it's cause and solution is covered in depth here. Basically you need to run FNVLODGen each time after you build or alter your "load order". See items 15-16 in the "Checklist" of the "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide for FNV specific links. -Dubious-

Didn't know that I needed to re-run FNVLODGen every time I change load order. Unfortunately that didn't fix it. However I did nail it down to Ojo Bueno's texture pack. Disabling puts it back to normal. Seems weird as I wouldn't expect that texture pack to make things look that much different. Toggling between the High and Ultra versions of that pack didn't make a difference though.
RoyBatterian
Most textures packs do not have LOD textures. They made their own LOD atlas for vanilla with hand edits, rather than regenerating object LOD with correct LOD textures that match their high res ones. One of the reasons for LODGen is this problem, and others. But proper LOD textures are needed for best results.

dubiousintent
No. LODGen is pretty "foolproof" (one button click). It's primary job is stitching together "quads" of distant landscape LOD according to the LO. If you are not happy with the look of the rocks, then you need to try someone else's landscape texture replacement. -Dubious-
RoyBatterian
LODGen only does object LOD, this is different from landscape LOD. Also as I said, in order for the objects to match your texture pack, the LOD meshes need to have textures which also match the high resolution ones. Tree LOD is not used in NV, so you can ignore that. Landscape LOD is handled by tes4ll which can be found here http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/61035
dubiousintent
<Sigh. Dang it.> Just to correct myself and avoid confusion: Roy is quite right. Despite knowing the distinction and my attempts to keep it straight I still manage to confuse which type of LOD (object vs landscape) LODGen generates. Which is why I refer to the TESTG site in my initial reply. TES4LL and LODGen are complimentary. You should run both. The TES4LL parameter changes for the FNV "wolrdspace" are listed under the "TES4LL Process Sequence" entry on the VWD/LOD Overview" page of TESTG. -Dubious- Edited September 29, 2016 by dubiousintent
