Regarding custom texture installation

Basically yes, but you need to know the entire directory of the file system for the textures to work. Like my dragon mod you need Data > textures > actors > dragon > then the .dds texture files themselves. Most of the mods you download from nexus will be in the data folder already. So you just extract that or drag/drop that to your Skyrim directory (where the TESV.exe is) It should ask to merge the Data files, click yes and done, only time you will get something else popup is if you try to overwrite texture files, i.e. using 2 mods for the same files.
