In most cases, they're just simple repetition, but, occasionally, you seem them raised to a higher form of humor. Aside from that, memes are part of the process of evolving the language. Let me put it this way, I definitely prefer using new and different phrases (even if they soon get old) to having a high velocity missile constructed of wood and iron penetrate one of my bodily hinges.
