Hot key to cast a spell

This is definitely my biggest beef with the Skyrim combat system.

In Oblivion, spell casting was intuitive, in Skyrim its clunky, like they really wanted people to either choose magic or combat, but not both, without taking away defense or combat capability. 1hand weapon + 1hand magic isn't amazing either, as you pretty much have to have restoration in left hand a lot due to lack of damage output.

also, not sure why you would have to pause between switching from 2he and magic, that's what the hot keys ( 1 - 8 ) are for. but.. all the same would love to see 1hand version of spells cast-able while both hands have gear equipped. would be a hot mod for a long time.

I have to say this would be an essential mod for me if it were to be made. With the bug making unequipping the right hand weapon/spell, it makes switching spells even more annoying. If someone made a hotkey mod, something basic like 1-9 I would definitely download and endorse

There is a basic but very functional mod http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2548, it only takes care of spell shortcuts but it does offer you 10 extra keys to assign spells so though it doesn't address the issue that people have with dual handed weapons, it can still be very useful.

I m thinking you could use the favourite menu together with the default 1 to 8 keys for equipping weapons and the extra keys for spells.

The author is also considering adding a modifier key to give the user even more assignable keys.

What do you mean the 1-8 keys? As far as I know in vanilla there is no way to set anything to hotkeys, only the favourites menu

Something like this would be optimal for me. i haven't tried it or anything, but the description sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. If someone could make hotkey auto-casting spells without equipping, I would give you my first born.(If this thing with me and Lydia works out and I don't take an arrow in the weiner.) :P

EDIT: more appropriate link :)

You'll have to favorite the items, and from the favorites menu you can number them by hovering over the item in the favorites menu and pressing a number.
