General easy question on modding: what am I doing wrong? Compatibility?

Hi there !

I succesfully used NMM in the past for Skyrim.

But now with Fallout 4 I'm having troubles.

I just installed a version that should be FULL(1.7)+ Nuka World,

then I used NMM URLs to install a few mods.

I don't see great changes, but I saw glitches.

For example I installed "Rain of Brass" and when it rains the rain is white with no graphic/transparence.

I also installed "Nuclear nude" but I don't see changes on a female character,

neither on raiders.

Also, when I start-quit the game and close NMM, I find some mods disabled automatically.

Is this some incompatibility problem ?

I didn't know about the "administrator" thing ...

  • I removed the "read only" from NMM and game folder
  • I launched NMM as administrator
  • I deactivated and reinstalled all mods
  • I still have the same problem, when I close and restart NMM some mods are deactivated
  • what else can I do ? I don't think I did anything strange ... except forgetting to run as administrator in the first installation

Do I have to do that ?

Doesn't NMM do that correctly already ?

I tryed to give a look to "Fallout4_Default.ini" and it already looks edited by NMM, so I tought it was already ok !

Excuse me but I assumed that NMM was going to do everything, I also don't find any extra information here: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/modmanager/?

Do I have to edit .ini file the first time, before installing NMM ?

Can you link me an installation guide ? I don't find any.

I will start from zero reusing my savegames.

NMM does not edit the ini files, or create the custom.ini

You do have to do that one yourself. It does not matter if done before or after installing NMM.

That was not clear in the "Fallout 4 Mod Installation" page (IMHO), because after point "How To Enable Fallout 4 Mods" it says in the next point "Nexus Mod Manager" that "Manually installing mods can be tricky and there is always some risk of damaging your game installation. The Nexus Mod Manager makes this process safer and easier by providing users with an easy way to download, install, enable, disable, and remove Fallout 4 mods, all from a centralized interface. More information can be found at the Nexus Mod Manager download page.".

So I guessed that NMM do the editing, (why it doesn't anyway ?)

So please help me to understand, I edited in my "Fallout4Custom.ini" file from this:

[Archive]

sResourceIndexFileList=Fallout4 - Textures1.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures2.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures3.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures4.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures5.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures6.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures7.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures8.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures9.ba2

sResourceStartUpArchiveList=Fallout4 - Startup.ba2, Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2, Fallout4 - Interface.ba2

SResourceArchiveList=Fallout4 - Voices.ba2, Fallout4 - Meshes.ba2, Fallout4 - MeshesExtra.ba2, Fallout4 - Misc.ba2, Fallout4 - Sounds.ba2, Fallout4 - Materials.ba2

SResourceArchiveList2=Fallout4 - Animations.ba2

sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\

SGeometryPackageList=Fallout4 - Geometry.csg

SCellResourceIndexFileList=Fallout4.cdx

SResourceArchiveMemoryCacheList= Fallout4 - Misc.ba2, Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2, Fallout4 - Interface.ba2, Fallout4 - Materials.ba2

to this:

[Archive]

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1

sResourceIndexFileList=Fallout4 - Textures1.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures2.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures3.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures4.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures5.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures6.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures7.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures8.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures9.ba2

sResourceStartUpArchiveList=Fallout4 - Startup.ba2, Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2, Fallout4 - Interface.ba2

SResourceArchiveList=Fallout4 - Voices.ba2, Fallout4 - Meshes.ba2, Fallout4 - MeshesExtra.ba2, Fallout4 - Misc.ba2, Fallout4 - Sounds.ba2, Fallout4 - Materials.ba2

SResourceArchiveList2=Fallout4 - Animations.ba2

sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\

SGeometryPackageList=Fallout4 - Geometry.csg

SCellResourceIndexFileList=Fallout4.cdx

SResourceArchiveMemoryCacheList= Fallout4 - Misc.ba2, Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2, Fallout4 - Interface.ba2, Fallout4 - Materials.ba2

So, changing only the first line, because "sResourceDataDirsFinal=" was already there after.

Is that correct ?

I'm still having the same troubles...

I do not know what the Fallout4_default.ini is, and I am not at home to check what mine looks like.

If the only modifications to the INI files are just to get mods to work, then delete them.

Start the game through Steam to recreate them. Then edit the two lines.

Other mod may require to edit the INI files as well.
