Kodiak412
Is it possible to kill this guy? I have tried every trick I can find and still he will not die or disappear. I am one of the many that has the BOTI quest horribly glitched. Calixto is in the house and will not die. I have tried the KILL command in the console (PC), nothing. I have tried to kill him from outside the house with the PRID command, however when I type in PRID 0001414A I get an "invalid command" reply. This leads me to believe that the Base ID of 0001414A for Calixto may be incorrect. I also tried to use the SETESSENTIAL 0001414A 0 command to make him mortal but this also has no effect. He will not die. Then I found a set of 3 commands where you click on Jorlief, type in a command, then type in to end the two BOTI quests, and this did work for the quest. The quest ended, cleared from my list, and I was then able to buy the house from Jorlief. I bought it and cleaned up the murder scene. I then fully furnished the house. Now I'm pumped! After at least a couple weeks of struggling with this bugged quest I'm thinking I finally did it. I go to the house and enter and here comes Calixto with his butter knife trying to kill me. The house looked great and I think I really want to make that place my main pad but Calixto has to go. Does anybody have any ideas? I do believe that the Base ID 0001414A that is listed for Calixto may be incorrect. Please remember too that the Ref ID (when you click on a character in game) is not what is needed you need the characters Base ID to change things with him. Thanks in advance for any replies. HackerSlasher
How about entering the console, then click on his face to get his ID and then entering "disable" ?
Draco856
simply use disable to get rid of him, or better yet, try something like "MarkForDelete" to remove him completely. Though I have to give a warning about MarkForDelete, I have no idea it's true effects on the game as I've never used it before, I just know that to completely removes the referenced object with no way of getting it back. Kodiak412
Thanks for the quick replies. I actually considered disable this morning, but have not used it. This quest is so buggy I was hoping the updates would fix it, but no such luck. My fear was that disable or MarkForDelete (I did not know this command) would bork something else. I was hoping to just kill him somehow to move the quest along but now that the updates are out and do not address this quest, I will be forced to give it a go. I think the key is to get the Base ID right. I do not believe that the Base ID listed for Calixto (0001414A) is correct. I may be completely wrong but he should be able to have his "essential" tag removed thus making him mortal again. Thanks again for the quick replies and thanks in advance to any others that would like to chime in on this subject.
HackerSlasher
I just clicked on him while he was asleep in his bed and got an ID of 0001B11D, so that might be worth a try.

It is the descriptor for the Race, Hair, Skin Color, pre-determined inventory, behaviors.... things like that. The Ref ID (Calixto's is 0001b11d ) is a more specific ID within the Base. Several NPCs (Bandits, Falmer, etc) will have the exact Base ID, but multiple instances of them will each have their own Ref ID to make them unique from each other. Think of it like identical twins - John and Jack both have the same Base ID (as they share identical traits) but will have unique Ref IDs (because they are unique instances of the same Base ID.) Kodiak412
While the in game Ref ID is specific to that individual or item the Base ID is needed to make changes. At least this was the way it worked in FONV. For instance in FONV I added an number of increased spawn mods. The problem was that the increased spawns were killing all the town people that were outdoors. This was a bummer. Poor Easy Pete in Goodsprings along with Sunny and Trudy were always getting killed on their way home. If you clicked on the individual and got the in game Ref ID, and then used SETESSENTIAL <Ref ID> 1, nothing would happen and you could still kill that character. (I tested this repeatedly on Snuffles and the couple at the Grub N Gulp). However after digging into the internet I was able to find a list of everyone and everythings Base ID. This Base ID (that you cannot find out by clicking on the person or object in the game) is what let me go into the console and turn all the good townspeople to essential characters, thus they would not get killed. A good example of this is to get a bottle of Nuka Cola in FONV and drop it on the ground. Click on it to get the Ref ID. Now use that Ref ID with the additem command and nothing will happen. You must have Nuka Colas Base ID and use that with the additem command to get extra Nuka Colas. I have to believe it is the same thing here. The Base ID is king. That is why I believe the Base ID that is listed for Calixto 0001414A is incorrect. Now there could be deeper code issues that I am not aware of but I know this is how it previously worked. Also I did try the Ref ID as you have suggested. That did nothing too. Thanks for the comments though, keep them coming!
xlr8films
Without the CS, it isn't possible to know the Base ID without hacking the game, which I don't trust, and you see why. The FOSE (Fallout Script Extender) would allow you to do it with the "gbo" command in the console. We'll just have to wait til one or both are released. Until then, you'll have to disable him to move on. You could also try enabling him right after and he may just reset to his original defaults (running his Curio shop and all that jazz.) "NPC Calixo picks package Wander." and so on. If 'setessential <Base ID> 1' isnt working on HIM, then it is likely his Base is listed wrong and you are setting SOMETHING ELSE as essential. I'd reload a prev save. You don't know if you're messing with another Base that is: a) already essential, or b) shouldn't be set that way for game purposes. For future reference, in case you ever want to do that again, here's a handy tip: 1) Create a file in your Data directory called npcinv.txt (or whatever) 2) For every NPC you want invulnerable create a line that reads: setessential <baseid> 1 Example setessential 00000A60 1 setessential 00000A61 1 setessential 00000A62 1 setessential 00000A63 1 (etc) 3) With the file created and saved, fire up your game and open the console 4) Execute the script by typing "bat npcinv" <enter> Bat scripts are champ. Been using them since DOS. Edited December 9, 2011 by xlr8films
