Dracion
Just to throw this out there i've been playing Oblivion for a year on my alienware laptop and it never crashed every 30 to 1hr. And then when I got Skyrim and installed it and Steam and later Fallout NV. Then that's when I started having the Oblivion problems. Also they discontinued Guru3D Driver Sweeper. So I can't download it. So now I have no idea what to do? Should I still download the latest graphic's drive? I also read the release notes on that drive and it said Catalyst™ Mobility is a notebook reference graphics driver with limited support for system vendor specific features. When used with Windows Vista or Windows 7, users may have unwanted experiences. Edited December 16, 2011 by Dracion
maboru
Sorry, forgot that 3Dguru dropped it. Probably because too many people were installing it wrong on Win 7. Here's the CNET link - http://download.cnet.com/Driver-Sweeper/3000-2094_4-75219868.html - you'll notice that some people are still having problems with it but most people run it with no problems as long as they read the directions first. You can go to the Alienware site and see if their latest driver for your computer is actually the latest ATI driver. Either way if it doesn't work you just have to repeat the process and reinstall the old one. From what you describe your problem definitely appears to be a corrupted driver. Dracion
Here see if you could help me because I do not know which video driver to install here is the link http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19. Under were it says O.S choose Windows 7 64 -bit. Then choose all files for Alienware M15x. choose video. And see which driver is best for me. Right now my video card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730. maboru
Wow, I didn't even know that Dell bought out Alienware. Unfortunately it returns an error when I click on M15X drivers or any of the other Alienware laptop models. However I went to the products page to check the features of your M15X and it seems they no longer sell that model and all the models they do sell now only have Nvidia gpus so they may no longer be supporting the old models with ATI gpus because I was unable to even locate legacy drivers. In that case you might just as well go ahead and download the latest drivers from the AMD site because that would seem to be tour only choice now. I wouldn't worry too much about OEM added features because, chances are, that Dell didn't spend the time and money (and trouble) to produce extra features in one of their niche lines. Again, you won't hurt anything by installing the the drivers from the actual manufacturer. Just be sure to it cleanly (no 'express install and no over-writing) and follow all the directions. Good luck.
Dracion
What do you mean when I wouldn't worry too much about OEM added features because I do not know what OEM means. Also what do you mean Just be sure to it cleanly (no 'express install and no over-writing).
maboru
OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer, in your case Dell. The reason to never use 'express install' is because it will install a bunch of stuff you don't need that hogs up the works. For instance; if you express install an nVidia driver set it will not only overwrite your old driver set, leaving potentially conflicting remnants but will install a bunch of niche products you probably don't even use and with Adobe express update you'll end up with an extra tool bar on your browser. nVidia doesn't go that far but I've never installed an AMD/ATI driver set (since I don't have any of their cards) so I don't know what unforeseen extras they might install. It's always best to choose 'custom install' because you get to see what it wants to install first, giving you a chance to not install what you don't need. The important thing is that you sweep out all the old driver stuff before you install a new driver so you won't run into any legacy conflicts. Dracion
OK i've tryed almost everything.first I tryed loading my saved game crashed about every 30mins -1hr. And it never used to do this until I got Skyrim. And I had this saved game for about a year.Second I tryed starting a new game and that didn't help worth s***. It still crashed every 30mins to 1hr.Third I turned off all the oblivions mods I got after I got Skyrim. And then I turned off some of the mods I had before I got Skyrim. And that also did nothing. Now what i'm going to try is to uninstall fallout NV. And sees fixes this Oblivion problem. If that does work then I will uninstall Skyrim and see if that it. And if that does not work I will do what you said try and remove my old driver install the new driver from the AMD site. Also should I still do a clean sweep on my old driver even if I reinstall my driver from my OEM. Edited December 18, 2011 by Dracion
maboru
Definitely, always remove all vestiges of the old driver before doing a clean install of the new one. It seems to me that it would be easier for you to do a new driver install before taking all that time to experiment with uninstalling and reinstalling games though. shadow56
Had the same problem. Installed Skyrim 4GB available on Nexus and walla problem fixed. Have been playing the game now for over a week with no random CTD's, blue or purple objects or missing textures. I am however running Skyrim version 1.1.21.0. I don't know what results you will get with the patched 1.2 and 1.3 versions.
