thebovin
Ok so I am getting tired of trying to make my FPS go higher. I have been running around 15-25 FPS on my system. I first started playing FO4 on a Nvidia 730. I Upgraded to a GTX 960 now. Yet i am NOT getting the boost i would expect i should be getting. My system specs are: Windows 10, AMD FX 4300 CPU ~4.2 Ghz overclocked, Nvidia 960 GTX 2GB Vram, And about 12 GB of Physical. I also have Fo4 on a SSD not a HDD. With all of this i would have thought i would be able to run Fo4 much better. What is even weirder, is sometime i will load the game and it will run 60FPS JUST FINE! Then, and Most times, it won't, and i will end up around 20FPS giver or take. I DO have mods, and i HAVE installed ENB to see if that helps...but nothing. What the heck is the problem? Ethreon
Your performance is bad and you install ENB, which is a well known performance eater. Anyway, without a mod order nobody can help.
AceGoober
@thebovin Are you running simply ENBoost or did you install a full ENB with graphics preset? The difference between the two is major. I've been using ENBoost which manages RAM memory better than Fallout 4 on its own. On low powered systems, ENBoost can provide a performance boost but that will depend upon the specific configuration of your system. One of the critical pieces of information we need to help diagnose your problem is: RAM manufacturer, model and speed. One of the best ways I recommend getting that information, unless you are tech savvy and already know how to get the info, is to download, install then run CPUz from CPUID.com then click the SPD tab as shown in this screenshot. Under the section Timings Table, farthest right column will show you the speed of your RAM divided by 2. In the screenshot you can see my RAM is reported as 1066Mhz which is incorrect. RAM speed is actually 2133 (1066 x 2). In Fallout 4, with the various different mods available - some of them duplicating one another - there could be conflicts in your mod load order. As Ethreon pointed-out, we will need to see your load order to check for incompatibilities and/or conflicts. Another thing to note, certain areas in Fallout 4 aren't all that optimized and can/will cause FPS dips. If you could let us know which areas you experience the most fps dips in then we can correlate with areas reported earlier on. Lastly, we would like to know what version of Fallout 4 you are running. Knowing this information will enable us to provide suggestions which may also improve performance.
thebovin
Ok, sorry for the delay, i work most the day >.< Ok, so i have Version 1.7.15 ATM. I try to not download the very new patches until the stuff they break is fixed again! I uninstalled each of my mods, to make sure it was not them. This did not help sadly. MY Ram speed is 800 x2 so 1600. I can attach a report from cpu-z also if i can figure out how to do that >.< Before i uninstalled my mods, i had just a few basics. CBBE, Armorsmith+Keywords. Homemaker mod. And a few others. But the FPS issue has been there a LONG time before i installed them. I Downloaded the basic Fo4 ENB from the ENBdev web site only. I heard it handles ram better so i tried it and it did nothing for me. I know that there are some areas that hit me harder, but generally im lucky to get over 25+ FPS...I know there is a problem here some where and really need help to find out what. I Disabled Godrays perm, through my .ini file. Anything you guys need to help, let me know! And Thank youAceGoober for the very detailed reply! To further detail my system:Mobo: MSI 760GMA-p34 FXAMD FX-4300 ~4.2 GHz OC(liquid cooled)Ram: two slots, one 8gb, two 4gb, both ~1600 MHzNvidia 960 GTX 2GB DDR5 (EVGA edition)I also have a 1GB HDD and a 120 GB SSD900w EVGA PSU Also, if i disable all mods in NMM, will i still have anything in effect that would effect my performance or otherwise still in my saved game when i load? It tells me my mods are missing, but i can't help but wounder if any of them replaced a default file or something that would still affect the game. thebovin
Ok im pretty sure i was able to set up an account for CPU-Z and my banner should reflect my full report validity.
thebovin
Does any of that info help?
bill8872
Scraping mods that require the .INI edit will also lower your FPS. I could do a bit better without ENB, as the preset I use does say some FPS loss will happen. I have been contemplating removing ENB, as I really don't need it. It seems to handle weather mods better with it though. Some areas do drop. Walking from Diamond City doing the Freedom trail quest to find the Railroad, I get hits often along that route. Most city areas with a lot of buildings to render seem this way. I normally get between 40 to 50 fps.
SharraShimada
oookay. ENB-Boost is fine, as long as you dont use a ENB modifier for it along. Try http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/102/? and stick to the recommendations inside of the tool. You can make a HUGE FPS-gain with so many options. Bethesda did a really bad Job in the default-configs. For example: I rung FO4 with 1600x900 resolution and high-settings on a Nvidia 450GTS with ~30 FPS (indor up to 60 where it caps)Going down from 1920x1080 to 1600x900 makes a difference of ~15 fps alone outside of buildings. So give it a try. Your system should handle FO4 very well, if its set up correctly.
Ethreon
The less advanced your RAM is the more you will suffer as well. Tests shown that memory speed is tied to the shadows, and this game has a lot of them.
thebovin
SharraShimada, you are a GODSEND! After i downloaded that and made a few tweaks, mostly i think Vsync was screwing things up. I now run 200+FPS loading and rarely go below 70 FPS in game! Since i play in first person at all times, this makes my ability to shoot s*** SOOOOOO much better! I freakin love you man/lady! That tool is amazing and now i am going to donate to them! I give all you guys two thumbs up for all the help! I will play a while longer to test it out, then hit the sack for yet another boring day at labor camp...i mean work! BTW i can now run the game at 100% FULL graphics in 1080 with the FPS i would expect from a upper-mid ranged GPU like i have! Soon, i'll be getting my 1070 tho, and i suppose that will be a two fold upgrade as well! Really looking forward to having 8gb Vram!
