Help would be appreciated on how to begin editing a mesh

I wish to be able to build an EXTREMELY GIGANTIC sword. It can use the original mesh and texture that can be found in-game.

 

 

I want to

1. begin with any random sword that can be found in game. Possibly the Daedric Claymore.

2. First, I want to make the blade and the handle right above the place you hold to be very fat-as fat as three humans placed sideways.

3. Then, I want to lengthen the blade ginormously. As in, Taller than the central tower of the middle of the capital.

 

I don't even care about the havoc physics or anything.

 

Can anyone help me begin? I already extracted all the textures from in-game. But I don't know where else to start. Do I need professional 3D modelling software? Is there anything I can use to scale such meshes?
