Making an old mod compatable with new?

I have an older mod that adds some stuff to an area, and I want to move that stuff so it isn't floating up in the air when I'm using a newer mod that modifies that same area. I've tried loading both mods in the CS, moving the items, but then I can't save the changes because the CS crashes.

Is there a way to do it?

Which mods? What do they each modify? Which mod are you setting as active? What objects are you trying to keep? What objects are you trying to move? What changes are made by the new mod? Are we talking static objects here?

It's my mod Portrait Painter, and the English version of Bananasplit's Better Cities. They both modify the IC Arboretum. My mod adds a mix of furniture and misc items, while BC changes the whole area pretty drastically. This results in the furniture I've added hovering above the ground, with the misc items on top. I'd like to make make a version of my mod to go with Better Cities without starting over completely.

I would load both mods and set yours as active. Make changes as needed based on the BC changes. If the CS is crashing then it's probably because both mods are trying to modfy the same base objects and thus the conflict. If that's the case then you may have to first remove any conflicts that take place inside your own mod first.

I have been loading both mods with my mod active. There's no conflicts between my mod and BC. I haven't modified any base objects either; the objects I'm using are either stock items or new items. When I make just a minor change, like moving my NPC just a few inches, and save, that's when my CS crashes. :(

Loading more than one mod in the CS is why he's having so much trouble. Simply, loading more than one mod in the CS at any time is a BAD idea and can actually cause a somewhat buggy mod to become totally broken if you don't know what you're doing. There are only a few cases where you might want to load more than one mod in the CS, and all of them are things which you don't want to save.

That said, the only real option here would be to either modify the BC mod to include everything that is in your mod, and keep it for your own use. Or make the changes to your mod without any other mods loaded, if it's a uniform height change for all the objects, this can be solved a little easier, if it's different heights across everything, you may be SOL since you have no point of reference for moving objects (since the other mod isn't loaded). There is another option ithat involves merging mods then seperating them, but it isn't something which is recommended due to complexity.

OK, I guess what I'll have to do is make a lot of gradual guessing and moving the pieces bit by bit until it looks right in game. Thanks to everyone for the help.

You could try writing down what changes need to be made, then load only your mod and make them.

Good idea! I'll try that :)
