Effecting Taverns and Hotels..

Why is it that everytime you buy a room, you always get the same room? Why are there never any other guests? And why are they ALWAYS vacant?

IT would be interesting to hear them say that there are no more rooms, and maybe even say 'So and So is accepting boards tonight, her house is down the street' or something.

And are there any mods affecting NPC social behaviour? Like.. Seeing a bunch of them going into some fancy house for a party?

Instead of going for parties- they end up killing themselves as soon as you give them better AI. At least that is what happened when Bethesda tried it. It would be interesting if one could encourage social (rather than anti-social) behaviour via a mod. If I recall correctly unsavory NPCs started moving around towns, killing people on sight (same as that mod with 7 Asian companions- where Anvil was a bloodbath by the time you got there and calmed them down)

Also I am imagining the angst of a player- battle weary and near death, heading to the nearest inn to level up- and WTF!! no rooms!!

A damn NPC party going on!!

would actually love to experience that :)

On the contrary, that is why the radiant AI was toned down, not why all the NPCs have boring packages. The "NPCs killing eachother because of mods" part is largely due to the people who made those mods not taking the steps to prevent this sort of thing from happening. That said, the main reason why this wasn't done initially was because of time. Bethsofts team just didn't have the time to go adding dozens more packages to NPCs or to adjust inn scripting for the allowance of different rooms (although the actual layout of most inns tends to be more of a limitation). The reason why modders havn't done it is not only because of all the time needed to go through planning stuff for NPCs to do, but also because any change to those NPCs conflicts with any other mod which affects NPCs. And as the case usually is, it would be something most people wouldn't notice unless they took the time to go following around NPCs.

The only practical implementation of more diverse packaging would be with new NPCs or new NPCs in a new area. But again, this usually becomes a time issue. Few people want to spend months fine tuning packages that aren't part of a quest, or wouldn't occur regularly enougn for anyone to even take notice. Afterall, how many people around here actually take notice of NPCs going off to worship in the temples every sunday? Or to see any of the lectures held in the Arcane University? Unless you're actually looking for it, or just happen to be in the right place at the right time, you'll miss it.
