Raise Zombie VS Reanimate Corpse

I am just wondering if anyone can tell me the difference between these two spells? As far as I can tell they do the exact same thing. Will using Reanimate Corpse make my Zombie more powerful then if I had used Raise Zombie?

Also there have been afew times I have raised zombies such as bandit leaders and they turn on me and attack me? Any idea why this happens?

And finally how do I tell what level an enemy is? The fury spell for example works on enemies up to lvl 6. How do I know which enemies are above level 6?

Thanks guys.

Higher level raisedead works on higher level dead. Your summons can't turn on you. To find out what enemies can be raised - just experiment.

I assure you that my raised Bandit leader did turn on me and my companion (Lydia?). I had a save right before the bandit fight and I kept reloading, every time he would turn on us.

Thats what he is saying, your spell is too low a level to raise that enemy. Not sure of the exact levels per spell but I will try to give you an idea how it works..

For example,

(Novice) Raise Zombie would be lvl 0-10

(Apprentice) Reanimate Corpse would be lvl 11-20

(Adept) Revenant would be lvl 21-30

(Expert) Dread Zombie would be lvl 31-40

(Master) Dead Thrall would be lvl 41+

In this scenario if you use Raise Zombie on a level 15 enemy it wont work, to raise that enemy you would need to use Reanimate Corpse. If you want to raise a level 37 enemy you would need to use at least the expert spell, Dread Zombie.

Hope this helps

Ok yes, but if the enemy was to high for raise zombie it would just say "enemy too powerful for.........". Instead it did raise him from the dead and he proceeded to charge me with his axe and kick my ass.

Well, some scripted resurrected NPCs do behave strangely sometimes. However, the only problem I ever had with them is that they get lost sometimes (with dead thrall). Does the bandit leader attack you right after you raise him? Since well, if you hit your thrall or follower like five times continuously, they'll turn on you. But even then, they reconcile after some time (maybe if they are pacified or lose you out of sight).

The raise dead spells work simple - they either resurrect you an ally, or, if the corpse is too powerful, do nothing. The vanilla level caps are as follows:

Raise Zombie - level cap @ 6

Reanimate Corpse - level cap @ 13

Revenant - level cap @ 21

Dread Zombie - level cap @ 30

Dead Thrall - level cap @ 40
