triptherift
Having a background in Art has helped me. Then later I went into tech, so I just mash the two things together.
Elias555
As the thread says, for mod developers, where do you get your inspiration for your mods? What makes you see it through to completion even though its an unpaid hobby? I'm curious because I have a friend developing a game and he's passionate about that stuff and I'm looking into local video game developers and feeling out the professional market for a possible career but I'm still wondering if its right for me so I thought I would ask the creative geniuses here at the Nexus what motivates them with their work.Usually from other forms of fantasy or games. I want it in my game, so I do my best to get it in my game. I'm not a fan of many games but when I have the opportunity to make 'my own' version of the game, I run with it. That's the biggest appeal for me. That's all good input. I like it. Do you ever go through any type of brainstorming process for new ideas? Do you instinctively know when something is off and that you want something changed?Lots, even for the smaller mods that go unreleased I have a folder with a notepad, files, pics anything related that will help things run smoothly. Instinctively? If something doesn't work in game like it works on paper I change it. So basically you are all are naturally creative? I usually have to brainstorm and think about the creativity part and sit with pen and paper, etc., otherwise its load up the nexus and see what new surprises show up. Maybe I might have to start doing research to unlock creativity or stimulate it in real life. No, not really. You want to have X in your game, list things that you need to do to achieve X and begin. The key is to do something, following a tutorial usually opens up peoples creativity. They start seeing what they can do and know how to do it and the ideas just flow. moriador
My favorite mods are usually made by mod creators who wanted something changed when they played the game themselves. They weren't purposely searching for ideas for "cool mods". They just played the game and saw something that they wanted to change. I make mods for myself only (much less frustrating). Sometimes I just play with the CK because I enjoy building things. But when I'm making something for myself that's for my game, I definitely want to complete it because, well, every time I load up the game to play, I'm reminded that I don't have this thing -- whatever it is -- that I decided I really wanted. And the more I'm itching to play, the more urgent it becomes that I finish whatever I'm working on first.
genolune
I had the bright idea today that even if I lack ideas, I can always look at the mod requests forum. That way I can sharpen my skills with new challenges even if I'm not being super creative. Sometimes I don't have to come up with ideas, others can do that plenty, all I have to do is stimulate my brain to make those ideas a reality.
