Braaaaains
I'm having a lot of trouble googling this issue because all I can find are fixes for the creation kit crashing. I decided to finally try to create a mod, so I fired up the Creation Kit. It gave me a vague error, so naturally I uninstalled/reinstalled. To my dismay it totally uninstalled Skyrim and all of my mods. After hours of frustration I had set up my game again and it would run just fine. From here I created a simple NPC using a tutorial, nothing crazy. I ran my game and successfully interacted with my NPC, recruited him as a follower, and was happy. Then I turned off my computer, went to bed, and forgot about all this. Today I started up Skyrim, tried to start a new game and it stopped responding right away. I tried loading a saved game, again "not responding." I deactivated my custom plugin, reactivated it, ran loot, googled until my fingers fell off, etc. I'm at a loss. What the heck happened here? Guys I just wanted to make my boyfriend as a follower so we could kill dragons together
saurusmaximus
First question: is your skyrim installed in the Program Files (x86) location? If so, have you set the permissions on your Skyrim folder to "Full access"? If the above didn't fix the problem, the next step is to: disable everything but the DLC and try starting a new game that way. If the game starts and runs, you know you have a borked mod somewhere. The only reliable way to find that is to: Add a mod in, start another new game, and see if it works; which can be a tedious process if you have a lot of mods. However, if the game still doesn't start with just the basics installed, your next step would be to reverify your game cache with Steam. After that, I would encourage you to get TESVEdit and clean your masters. Gopher made an excellent tutorial on the subject. It not only makes the game run better, but I've found that it makes the CK work better as well.
