PC Crash Screen and Sound Distortion

Hey all..so here is my issue

When I load into an interior I usually go a few feet, maybe a little combat then bam. The computer locks up. The screen does one of several things, it flickers and eventually goes black, freezes, or distorted (it gets squiggly blue lines going across it)

The sound does one of two things, it either stays the same or distorts (it repeats the same milisecond of sound over and over and over and over.)

This is my third character and the only time I have experienced this problem -it happens a lot now.

The problem does not occur in outside spaces.

When it crashes, its a total system crash, mouse and keyboard are unresponsive and I have to reset...

If the screen distorts, the distortion carries over into the next start up, and I have to start in safe mode and restart to get back to normal..

System specs

Windows 7 32 bit

7gb ram

graphics card Evga 9800 (or Nvidia 9800) 512mb

processor- intel 2.5 quad core

I have tried updating the graphics drivers, downgrading the graphics drivers, removing the graphics drivers, and it all eventually leads to a crash.

Also have tried playing with and without mods, nope, still nothing.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any suggestions would be great.

I will try to get a picture of the screen distortion if it happens again, in the meantime I am going to download the 4gb LAA mod and see if that does anything.

I don' t have anything solid to offer but sounds like a possible hardware issue. Anything from a power supply

not holding up under load to some other wonkiness.

What does stand out from your listed specs that is causing me to reply is the fact you state

you have a 32 bit operating system and for some reason have listed it having 7GB of RAM.

7 is a very odd number for a RAM config as I've never seen a system use that. 2, 4, 8, 12, 16 would be a normal

progression.

But more important is that is a 32 bit operating system. It cannot use more than 2 GB and some small change.

THere is NO reason whatsoever to have that much RAM for Win 7 32 bit. It suffers from the same

memory limitations WIndows Xp 32 bit does. Period.

Makes me wonder maybe, if your at the end of the rope and have nothing better to do, is strip that

down to a normal config and set it up with 4GB max.

Just how did you manage to arrange the memory banks with 7GB RAM? I'm really wondering what

sort of hardware allows for such a oddball configuration.

Or was that just a typo. Hah.

Concur, if not a typo then you've probably got a bad stick. Trim it back to 4 gig and run Windows memtest to check it. Further, you're card's really old and probably near the end of it's life span. 512 mb of VRAM is also a tough shot with Skyrim since that amount will fill up very fast and with a seeming engine glitch with swapping to system RAM and the inherent memory leakage in the game you're in for a wobbly game at best.

With 4 gig you can still benefit from the 4gb mod so you can try that too, even if you're in a position to upgrade your hardware.
