Combat Mods

Hi all,

I am frustrated with the combat in New Vegas. I've been using a variety of mods to try and correct this since I began playing:

RWD

BLEED

Project Nevada

Realistic Headshots

Game difficulty is Hardcore/Very Hard. "Gun" skill is 100.

You'd think, with the DT system, I wouldn't be complaining. I thought so too.

I'm going up against these Omertas and they can just soak up rifle rounds, even with the mods, it's a deal-breaker for me, I must fix it.

Collision: A particularly nasty gripe I have is related to the collision of environment and player positioning. There is no way for me to shoot from cover; the collosion geometry of walls and such block my shots, while leaning out so much exposes me to enemy fire.

AI: how enemies with guns walk up to you slowly while firing on full auto. I realize this is a consequence of the engine being adapted from Oblivion, but come on, I remember bandits flanking me with bow and arrow even in that game.

I've noticed Cass using cover in an amazing way that no other NPC uses. What's with that? She goes into a pose against a wall and leans out to shoot, just like in FO4.

What I am looking for

Human enemies to be just as fragile as I am. Absolutely no bullet sponge. If you have played any of the STALKER games, with max(intended) difficulty, you know what I mean. That is as close to perfect, fair game shooting as I have found.

> 1 bullet to head, direct hit, kills humanoid target. No exception. A hat does not count as armor.

> 2-3 bullets to torso kill unarmored human.

Closest I've gotten is RWD + Realistic headshot mod. I'm wondering what others think, if there is something I am missing (because all the mods I listed claim to do similar things, which is close to what I want).

Have you tried reducing the difficulty? It's inversely related between the player and the NPCs (according to this article). The Players damage goes from 200% at Very Easy to 50% at Very Hard, while the NPCs go from 50% to 200% on the same settings. Normal will set a level field: 100% vs 100%. You can change difficulty "on the fly" in game, so you should be able to easily test what works best for you with that combination of mods.

BLEED does the same stuff as RWD (and more) but without the crashing due to weird edits, and the two mods will conflict with each other.

For PN get Extra Options by Gribbleshnibit8 so you can turn the level multiplier down for endurance and level, set them to 0 so they don't get exponential HP scaling (Bethesda's idea of difficulty). You must have the Rebalance and Rebalance complete modules for this. This will also affect how enemies act AI wise. Turn on the DT helmet requirement too.

With those two things you shouldn't need realistic headshots (probably does the same stuff as BLEED and RWD).

I think kicho666 (MadAce) has a better/precision collision mod which will fix a lot of the stupid collision issues Beth games have. They annoy me too, I feel you there.
