ResidentWeevil2077
Sorry, but you you're gonna have to play with the keyboard+mouse. The PC game was developed to use just that, so any use of controllers (especially the Xbox 360 one) is strictly out of the question. Trust me - I tried what you trying to do, and came out with the same results. Besides, it's much easier using the mouse to look around on the PC. You just have to get used to it. WoogieMonster
You will need to buy a controller made for the PC, preferably one that has re-mappable buttons. Several companies make them so you will have to research which one is best for you, and determine if it will completely eliminate the keyboard and mouse or will you still need them. Currently I use the Nostromo N52 made by Belkin. It gets rid of the keyboard but you still need the mouse, or in my case, the trackball. The N52 is perfect for me because it's made for your left hand and my right hand no longer functions. You can get one now for under $25 from Amazon, Newegg, or EBgames. Like I said there are others. You 360 control does not function properly because it's not a true Plug-N-Play device, your PC doesn't know what to do with it.
ResidentWeevil2077
Actually, the 360 controller is an XNA device, and uses Xinput as well as DirectInput. Windows Vista comes with XInput, but alas, XP does not. The thing too is the extremely bad drivers from M$ - even the triggers are messed up. Tell me something, why is it that both triggers use the same axis (in this case, the Z)? Is there some special reason why it's set up this way? I don't see a reason for this blatant madness
wizardmirth
You can play with a controller on the PC but stil need the mouse/keyboard for some things and need to tweak the .ini file as per the latest oblivion patch info. ResidentWeevil2077
There are two progs I know that allow you to use any gamepad on the PC: -Pinnale Game Profiler -Xpadder Pinnacle allows you to use any PC game pad (including the 360), but you must buy it (thus, a credit card is handy). Xpadder is free, so you can use either one, which suits you needs. This link is a custom installer for Xpadder, and includes a few extra profiles. wizardmirth
You're still not going to get it to work for PC Oblivion because PC Oblivion was made for keyboard and mouse. The best you can do is get '2nd to Xbox' functionality on it.
vampirefaeries
You can use your Xbox 360 controller for the PC while playing Oblivion regardless of what anyone says. I am doing it now. Once all of your buttons are mapped properly they work alright but you just don't have very good control of your character. They move like they are slipping around on ice. They kindof "slip and slide" from left to right when walking. At any rate if this sounds OK to you, buy the reciever for your controller, install the software. (If you are using a hardwired controller, plug it into a USB port and your machine should tell you that you have new hardware installed. It should then ask if you would like to search for the current drivers to install and it should be able to find them for you with no problem. If not, you should be able to Google it with no problems). Download and install them. Then tweak your ini file (it may say configuration file) under Documents/mygames/oblivion/oblivion.ini as follows: The Default Settings in tne Oblivion.ini: ;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1fJoystickMoveFBMult=1.0000fJoystickMoveLRMult=1.0000iJoystickLookUpDown=6iJoystickLookLeftRight=3fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020 Change to these values to get better functionality from a 360 game pad connected to a PC. ;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1fJoystickMoveFBMult=2.0000fJoystickMoveLRMult=2.0000iJoystickLookUpDown=5iJoystickLookLeftRight=4fJoystickLookUDMult=0.7500fJoystickLookLRMult=0.7500 Make sure the settings are saved. Note, changes to the Oblivion.ini file will not be saved if Oblivion is running when the changes are made. For Validation purposes, this information is posted on the Bethsoft Website at this link: Bethsoft controller conversion info Then turn on your game, at the startup screen go into Options, then choose controls, then choose controls again and at the top, go from Keyboard to mouse to Joystck. Then you may map your buttons to whatever is most comfortable for you. There are only 10 buttons as far as the XBox controller is concerned. The trigger buttons cannot be mapped, but the bumpers can. The keys are numbered as follows: Button 1. = XBox A Button Button 2. = XBox B ButtonButton 3. = XBox X ButtonButton 4. = XBox Y ButtonButton 5. = XBox Left BumperButton 6. = XBox Right BumperButton 7. = XBox Back ButtonButton 8. = XBox Start ButtonButton 9. = XBox L3 Button (push down on the left thumbstick)Button 10. = XBox R3 Button (push down on the Right Thumbstick) Now you are ready to play. But, as I said before, you really don't have very good control of your Character. I have been a hardcore console gamer for many years and getting used to the keyboard has been tough for me. But overall I think the keyboard is a better choice for this particular game. I personally think I will choose to work harder getting used to the keyboard. I hope this helps.
