Bruhmis
1. ignore that bipolarone-guy... i dont know his problem, but he gets upset all the time, when i see a post from him... so dont panic, it seems its his normal "behavior"... dont know why. 2. have you installed DX9, 10, 11?Yeah i know, i know, Win10 comes with DX12 and that should cover every DX from the last 500 Decades and so on. But NO, it does not. DX is always only 90% compatible. And its always a good advice to install the DX-Setup, that comes with the game, or the version its made for. Something changes everytime, Microsoft builds a new version, and the always screw something up. yeah, I installed dx from the fallout redist folder a coupledays ago. plus I've installed many other times when I install a new game that does first time setup. Bruhmis
...well your post was certainly an interesting read - though I have to assume we're not talking about the same stutter. this is something I had happen in skyrim for a very long time, and it never forewarned of a crash or blue screen. the issue persisted even after a clean installation of windows. I'm a bit confused though - are you mistaking SSDs for portable hard drives? External SSDs exist, but aren't ubiquitous. my SSD is my main disk, where windows is installed. Bruhmis
To test if your stutter is i/o stutter, start a new game & go for a run. If the game runs smooth, your stutter is i/o stutter. Also if you are not using a GTX 970 or better or a i5 2500k or better it will take a lot of skill to run this game with mods smoothly.I did this test a couple days ago. I think I actually did have some i/0 stutter - but evidently that's not the only form of stutter I had. playing on a new, onmodded save seemed to fix the stutter for the first 10-15 minutes but it came back shortly after. I guess I fixed one type of stutter that way, but the more noticeable one is still there. I have a factory OC'd 970. aside from Boston, my setup used to run the game at ultra (godrays off, shadows medium) at a solid 60 fps, with no stuttering at all. exact same scenario with skyrim - the setup I had at the time ran the game fine, then the stutter just appeared for no reason. Bruhmis
...I'm not ignoring your posts, as you said. but you're almost exclusively giving me pointers to change the game's general performance, which isn't the issue I have. I'm sure someone will stumble on this thread and find your posts useful, but making the game run better isn't going to help me get rid of the stutter (and I can't really get it to run better at this point. I run it near ultra @60 fps and it stutters on the lowest possible settings).
NCRForever
I pretty much have the game stutter free. GTX 960, AMD 8320. But, I used a few mods and ini settings to get it that way. What I was using, before I stopped using mods was: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4172/? http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2428/?http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2628/? http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/18815/? http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2208/?Once it was stable, I installed this, just for shitz and giggles: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9498/? I used the most transparent option. It may or may not help you. But, that's what helped me to get a stable 55 - 60fps.

I've measured the impact these kinds of mods have on VRAM consumption, and with 3.5 GB it's not enough to make a significant difference.
NCRForever
Instead of poopooing on it, give it a shot. Whether it was VRAM related or not, other people have had good results with the above. But, anyway. My dad always told me that you can lead a horse to water, but, you can't make it drink.
Bruhmis
Instead of poopooing on it, give it a shot. I'm just stating what my findings were. I've had DOF disabled in the config since the game came out (I can't f*#@ing stand DOF), and the fog removers were things I tested extensively when far harbor came out. on an overclocked 970, they just don't make any real difference. the same can be said of bloom, I've experimented with Bethesda's bloom shaders a lot in the past - they're very lightweight. and the "urban area fps fix" is just a tutorial on how to edit the config for performance. I know how to do that, and it's among the many things I've tried. like I said, your post is useful, just not for the particular problem I'm having. NCRForever
Have you tried all of those combined at the same time? In Boston, I ran at a steady 55. Now that I'm running vanilla, I'm lucky to get 20, so I tend to stay away, unless it's quest related.
