Oblivion XP Update HUD adjustment

Oblivion XP Update has its own HUD setup including a new compass. On the bottom left corner of the screen is a text box for all EXP gains and messages, and even when it's not displayed it's there, and it pushes all mouse-over location text to the left, which is causing problems with any sentence that's too long. The new compass is also smaller and sits higher and I'm not a fan of it.

To make things worse, this compass seems to override anything I try to do with HUD Status Bars installed. As you can see I managed to tweak my HUD to some degree(XP bar on top, encumbrance bar below, weapon and magic shifted to the left). The level up icon SHOULD appear beside the magic icon if settings hold, I've not tested yet, but I hope so as by default, it's appearing underneath the edge of the compass. Again, that text box is pushing things to the left. I've tried to install HUS Status Bar's own compass setups but they don't work right- Oblivion XP seems to override it somehow and all I get is a broken compass that's missing most graphics. I can't even edit compass settings in HSB's own INI files because anything I try to adjust is totally ignored.

So what do I want? First, to move the text box so it's not pushing the text over and cutting off lines. I think the top of the screen would be best, but OBXP's XML setting files aren't really edit-friendly and when I try to edit anything in them, the game will not run. Then maybe change the compass.

I don't want to, for one, and I don't run the DarnifiedUI setup because a lot of people in the comments report serious problems with it.

Fact is, the text box is just not in a proper spot and even at that, its compass is overriding the HSB compass totally. I disabled both mods, reinstalled HSB, then installed OBXP and it's still giving me the same compass errors and mashed text box. But even without HSB, I get the mashed text.

And even more people run it fine.

While OblivionXP doesn't require it, works much, much better with it. It will also fix your problem, make the interface non-terrible in general, and is by and large a good idea.

And seriously, you are using HUD Status Bars, but not a Darnified UI, because DarnUI has reported issues!?

Well I tried Darnified. It installed well, HSB installed well, OBXP installed well.

Then I try to adjust Darnified's settings, exit the game so I can tweak HSB's bars through the ini file... then come back to my game and find all my Darnified settings are back to default, and it even says on the menu that changes are lost when you exit the game. Given the default icon and compass sizes are far smaller than I like, I find this to be really just poor design and I see no point in the options menu if it can't even save settings. I'm ditching this if they can't make it work right.

I am curious, what screen resolution do you play the game in?

Oh and as far as DarN's UI mod, if you decide to have a go with it, make a back up of your oblivion.ini file and put it somewhere safe. If for some rare reason you don't get it to work, then uninstall it and replace the modified ini file with the one you backed up.

I found out how to actually change DarnIU's HUD settings permanently, though it is a bit of work. But beyond that I do quite like it, for the most part. It also plays nice with OBXP and HSB... so far. It relocates OBXP's text boxes so they don't cause problems. Though I need to tweak HSB some, try to add a clock and gold counter if I can without them acting weird.

I run at 1165 x 864 resolution. anything higher than that and it'd hit my FPS. I could run at 1024 x 768 and get a bit better FPS but this keeps me at least playable and keeps the graphics looking nicer(I have the 2048 x 2048 HGEC hi-res skin texture mod applied). I found a DarnUI scale of 85 to be suitable to me, big enough to see easily but not as large as vanilla.

I don't think my .ini file will be a problem... when I made this install, before I even ran the game proper I copied the .ini file from my other install so I could maintain my settings and performance tweaks.

My status bars are moved to the corner with the XP bar on top(default OBXP location) and a yellow encumbrance bar on the bottom. Weapon and spell icons are close by it and the level up icon should theoretically be beside spell(I set it that way but haven't leveled yet to test it). My location will appear in a box in the bottom right conrer and all OBXP messages show up in a box above the status bars.

Sounds like you have things figured out then :) Glad you are able to play and read your messages now.

At least you don't have my issues with DarN hehe. I use triple monitors with a res of 5040 X 1050 and I can't move any of the stuff over to the center or right monitor. Such a pain, lol.
