TheLastIstari
>_> Ok, so I admit I have not made the best requests, but hopefully this guide will help newbie requesters (a sticky would be awesome) ------------ So you want to request something? A sword? A stone? A sword in a stone? Or something else? Well, unless you know how to request it, it probably won't happen. Anyways, let's get started. The Title. The Title is one of the most important aspects, use it to summarize what you're wanting, with details inside. With a title like "Requesting Sword" you probably won't get farther than your first post, try a title like "Requesting (Sword name)" that way modders will have an idea of what you're asking. Pictures Pictures, these will help tremendously. They show what you want and give modders who may want to do this some reference. "Hi I would like to request Dante's Trenchcoat" Well? What does Dante's Trenchcoat look like? Not everyone will know, so try something like. "Yes, I would like to request Dante's Trenchcoat from Devil May Cry, here are some pictures" followed by at least one picture good enough for reference, don't just say "look it up on Google" because if you won't take your request seriously enough to put up some pictures, modders won't take it seriously enough to make it for you.* Correct Spelling/Grammar This is probably the most important part of your request. I cannot stress this enough. If you really want it done, you have to make people think it's worth it, and how you request it says a lot. If you say something like; "lolz can u mak me xcalibr lolz" No one is going to care. I can understand if English isn't your native language, but there is no excuse for using that sample of text up there, you can use a translator if you really have to. "Hi, I was wondering if one of the modders here can make me Excalibur" is much better, provided you show pictures. Your post count Ok, admittidly, this one is not a life or death situation like most of the other things on here. But it should be pointed out (thanks batlham). The higher your post count it, the better chance you have. If your first post turns out to be a request, it'll give people the impression that once it gets done for you, they'll never see you again. Most of you can understand this. Show an interest in the community, chat with others, participate in topics, show that you're here to join a community not have a request done. Is your request worth granting? Not everyone will make a mod for you because they feel like it, sometimes they need some convincing. Showing you'll be using it for a project you're making and planning to credit them usually helps. This isn't a neccessity, but it helps. "Hi, I need this done for me because I have a questline in production and would need someone to help me make a mesh and texture for this weapon" followed by some screenshots of your progress does wonders, much more than if you had nothing to back it up. ---------------- Well, I suppose that's everything, if I missed something, let me know and I'll fix it, thanks. batlham
You know..you should add the fact that a low post count makes people more apt to ignore the request.I have noticed that MOST of the people requesting things..have under 5 post count....in fact I looked at a bunch before writing this.I did not find a "make me" poster with over 8 posts. If you are not an active "member" of the community, no one will take your serious. It looks like you only joined to get someone to make you stuff... I know saying that is kind of elitist. However, think about it. Would you want to make someone a mod that only posts "give me" topics?I know I would be more eager to help someone that shows a larger interest in the community and learning. TheLastIstari
Thanks, I'll add that now. >_> Seriously, someone needs to inform the mods about this thread, it may sound biased, but I would like to see this thread stickied.
