Skyrim and Steam...

I still don't really understand why many gamers are pissed with having Skyrim run through steam (either then breaking the LAA patch), or having the upcoming CK run through steam. And I also find it interesting how people think you have to be online all the time using steam. =/

Only time I use steam online is for activations. The only gripe I have is having to download the preload patches that extends the installation times. But there are great benefits; I can install my games on different computers, and I don't even need the CD after installation (saves me searching left right and center trying to find the darn CD just to play the game). It's just click and play.

I just don't get it =/

So forced broken patches, not being able to patch to a previous version if you want, and offline mode not actually being offline (pull your ethernet cable out before going into offline mode and watch Steam throw a *censored* fit) is ok with you? Eh, to each their own.

A moderator from another forum summed it up brilliantly:

"Skyrim is like a car, and Steam is a 5'8" 350lb security guard that sits in the back seat making sure that you don't drive anywhere you aren't supposed to and checks your drivers license and registration every time you get into the car to make sure you didn't steal it. He also occupies the entire back seat so you can't take your friends anywhere, and his extra 350 lbs causes your gas mileage to drop like a rock. Oh.. and he doesn't contribute ANYTHING to the reason why you bought the car in the first place, and he's certainly not in the car to protect YOU (the dealership that sold you the car will, in fact, argue that you never purchased the car, are merely leasing it, and the fat security guard is there to ensure your compliance with the terms of the lease)."

Steam contributes NOTHING. NOTHING. Instead it just slows down everything, and is a royal pain in the arse. Steam is a parasite that needs eradicating fast, but unfortunately it is also a parasite that pays developers to force customers into installing its crap.

Add to that how there are some computers that for some unknown reason can't run steam at all. Luckily it works on mine, but I've heard quite a few people who have that problem. That's the reason why I was really reluctant to getting skyrim at all once I heard steam being a requirement.

Steam might be great as an option for those who can actually get it working, but for others it's just a parasite. Like others have said, if you are like me and prefer a "physical" copy with the gamebox, then steam doesn't contribute with anything else than trouble.

love that :)

he missed one thing though, that fat useless security guard won't prevent that car from getting stolen right off the lot...he ends up bound, blind-folded, gagged and tossed in the trunk by thieves who never have to deal with him again. while people who actually bought the car have to deal with everything quoted.

He also steals your perfectly good car, including all the chocolates and loose change you keep in the glove compartment, and replaces it with a newer model without asking you, regardless of what state the new model is in.
