Skyrim and Steam...

Let me ask you something, can you play Skyrim legally without Steam? No? Do you see now?

Actually yes, if you install the original copy and run it by TESV.exe you can, you dont need steam but you cant get the updates without it

I would say that, when I wanted to gather information from People to sell or to use otherwise, I would say that, if I would work on Cloudbased Solutions and get my Money from it, I would say that, if I wanted to take Control away from individuals and concentrate them on Corporations or Government. Since I am unfortunately on the other Side of the Shore, I have to wait and see for myself what benefits me most.

On which side would you consider yourself sitting on?

Governement and corporations. I'm a games developer and my dad is a military IT officer. We both agree that the cloud is much safer for our line of work than hardcopy, for the integrity of the information anyway

This isn't intended to be offensive, but I don't exactly trust Bethesda's judgement when it comes to what impedes the playing of their own games - or the performance of them ^

We are talking about the people who just released a game on the pc which couldn't use more than 2gb of memory. (And took countless complaints before they patched it up...) Not to mention the incredibly faulty UI.

That implies to me they are completely clueless as to performance / playability impediments in their own games. Therefore their faith in Steam is highly questionable at best ^ If they think it's 'good', I'd say their opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.

Most games are now being made for Console and then ported to PC afterwards, this is why PC needs extensive patching, don't blame steam for bethesda's stupidity, steam is doing their best to regulate distribution of games and patches and present feedback about such games to the developers. the 2gb problem is bethesda not steam. console not PC, dont blame the people here to fix the problem

Actually, if you'd re-read what I said I wasn't blaming Steam for Bethesda's buggy games: I was saying that Bethesda's judgement is dreadful and therefore their endorsement of Steam is incredibly dubious.

Also, the ability to play without Steam via TESV.exe was taken away with one of the updates. (I tried every work-around under the sun during my own installation to avoid being forced to update my game to no avail.)

You don't have to agree with those of us who dislike Steam, but don't try and tell us we're wrong for disliking it  I don't say you're wrong for liking it...I say you're lucky. None of us who hate it get any benefit from our opinion of it...quite the opposite.

Alright I haven't been on much on Nexus as I took a break. I came back here from time to time to; see what a major disaster skyrim became because of steam. Granted I got a very powerful rig and a very beefy internet line to die for with zero cap!

I totally understand why people are pissed with steam including me! I bought Skyrim it said; you need steam... I said fine! I'll bite np already have steam. It just ONLY needs ONE time activation! No issue with that as I understand a company want to protect their product against pirates. I just need to proof I bought the game it's fine np. Well that turned out very differently now did it...

Off topic: And for the other people commenting regarding ubisoft they are really are digging their own grave with their dragon of a DRM check the forums any of it seriously...

Off topic: World rule: if one doesn't complain no change will occur as it accepted no shout? means all is well! If we all accepted everything that these corporation tell us to do will $%@&*%# our @%%. This world would be very bleak and we are heading that way. Hence why people revolt and crimes rises until change occur... very off topic but its facts!

Anyway moving back to Steam/Skyrim. No! I do not want my control taken away! I fight against that every day! I don't need that in my home! Where my games is my entertainment & RELAXATION of the world! Anyone with a brain would, be pissed off is somebody is mucking around in their home!

Look m8 stop the overhype and trying to look good saying I'm an game developer and my father is an Military IT developer and saying cloud is much safer rubbish hype. You just lost all credibility on that matter for, ever saying Cloud is better than hard copy! I too work as an IT security. And all good IT techs knows the danger of Internet! Which some don't speak about as it cause mass panic or is downplayed by mega corporations Saying: no it's harmless & easy really!

Let me ask you this when a network is being built in a company how is that network created? in the Cloud/direct internet or shielded against the internet world. Some companies goes in extreme length of, having two or more SEPERATE networks (internet/no internet) or other forms. Which is safer do you think? Seriously which one? The one that everyone can get into in any form like hacking? Or the other what I just explained. Yeah... I really don't need to spell it out do I?

Not that I have any issue being online but, if it's NOT needed it's another matter which is steam!

As it seems CK is mandatory in steam... this also will be my last game from this developer. The reason why Skyrim rage is bigger in regards Steam + Bethesda. The Fantasy Genre community base is larger than sci-fi and it will always be the case. Don't believe me? I raise a card and it says WOW online... I rest my case..

please try to remember steam fans...you don't buy, you lease. for an indeterminate amount of time at steams discretion. they can cancel that lease at any time, then you just end up with well, nothing. simple rule of thumb, if a game requires an internet connection to run, you don't own it.

I actually like steam, i can sometimes end up buying some gems of a game that i would not have looked at for an instant without steam promoting it and giving a hefty discount on the purchase price of the game.

Fine but this has nothing to do with having to launch steam to be able to play a single-player standalone PC game.

You go to their store voluntarily I take it. You're not forced to go to it. It's not putting some software on your PC that takes you to the store every time you start up your browser.

Some people seem to be unable to grasp this but I have no need for steam and do not want their "service". Now the difference between you and you're being able to buy cheap games, I have no choice in the matter. It is mandatory. You HAVE to launch through steam.

But hey you can launch in "offline" mode right? Right.. What does such behaviour tell you about a company anyway?

So, I guess I'm paranoid. Well, so what if I am. I purchased a single player game at the store and did not appreciate the Steam intrusion in my life. So my game experience was ruined and my money gone. You can like or dislike Steam, I truly don't care, but if Steam is the future for the gaming industry, then they lost at least one good customer.

Enjoy your game people. I do hate Steam, I have a right to choose what is good for me and what is not.
