Wrong AP numbers or V.A.T.S only allows 4 attacks?

Well hello, I have a question and I hope someone can answer this.

Basically I'm doing a heavy VATS playthrough and I have issues with that.

I am using the Bozar, All American and other scoped or auto guns. My problem is that I cannot shoot them the right amount of times I should.

For example the Bozar is 18 AP. my current build has 95 AP. I should be able to fire that thing atleast 5 times and have 5 AP left. Yet I can only fire it 4 times and then the game says I have low AP. 18x4 is 72. 23 AP left for nothing.

And the All-American is the same. 13 AP. I should be able to fire it 7 times and have 4 AP left. Yet I can only fire it 6 times.

Am I missing something, is it a bug or is it siple impossible to use all AP and you have to keep AP for atleast one attack left?

No i have qued over 10 shots on several occasions. Though guns do need to reload and use vats points for that. I haven't used either gun for a long time so im not sure if that would be it.

Then why am I unable to queue more than 4 18 AP shots with 95 AP I have?

Are you by any chance using a "selective fire" mod in other than "single shot" mode? In which case you may be going through ammo faster than you expect.

An Agility penalty will affect your AP total as well (-1 Agl = -2 AP).

Does this happen the first time you initiate a VATS sequence, or when you are continuing one? In the latter case the "regeneration rate" has kicked in. "A character will take 16.66 seconds to recover their AP bar to full regardless of their AP total, unless their AP is modified by perks. It should be noted that AP gained through perks do NOT count towards regeneration rate." - Fallout Wiki "Action Points"

Otherwise you have an unusual problem, which is more likely the result of a mod or mod conflict.

Well. I use single fire and selective fire mode. But the game does not use a full magazine. Light MG has 200 shots and uses 5 per VATS attack. SO I only use 5 shots x 4 attacks even though I should be able to use 5 attacks with my AP.

WIth single shots I have a mag of 30 but it stops at 5 shots aswell even if I should be able to chain 6 shots.

I Have no AGI penalty and have 10 AGi. No other perks that add any AP yet. So I stand at 65+3x10=95 AP.

I doubt it's a mod problem since I'm a guy who barely use mods.

My mod list:

-enhanced blood textures

-no weapon degrade

-Riot gear neck cover mod

-Fellout (removes the yellow color filter in the game)

-Hand Loader modified (Gives me a 100% casing recovery chance)

-Sprint mod

-LDFemaleArmorPack

I did read the wiki pages and searched around but did not find my issue or a solution to it anywhere.

As you say, it's not an issue I have heard of previously. I would suspect "Sprint mod". If it is this one, the description says "The speed and ap drain formulas are multiplied by these values respectively". It might be an unintended consequence of tinkering with those formula. Try disabling that mod and testing.

Without finding it on Nexus under that name, another possibility is that the "LDFemaleArmorPack" is imposing some penalty to either Agility or AP or weight.

Listed as LDFemaleArmorPack in my mod folder.

Uninstalling both didn't really help. I still can't figure out why I always have "low AP" one action below the amount I should do.

Thanks for the link. As that is a texture replacement, I doubt it has any impact on AP.

The GECK says each weapon has a setting for:

  • Fire Rate: The number of shots the weapon can fire per second.
Note: This only applies to automatic weapons; the rate of fire for single-shot weapons is dictated by the "Attack Multiplier," which can be found under "Art & Sound" -> "Animation."

I did find this thread comparing weapons and the effect of "weapon modifications" like scopes and silencers on AP cost, but no supporting documentation other than the limited anecdotal tests. (Nothing on any wiki.) Scopes seem to impose the most penalty.

I had a Recon Scope on my 10mm pistol and got about 5 uses with a full AP bar. Switched to a Reflex Sight (Better focus and sighted accuracy.) and I could get about a dozen uses per action bar. Much more than the 0.7 or so weight change would cause.

However, the "reflex sight/scope" seems to be limited to only a couple of weapons. I was unable to find anything on it in general in the game wikis or Nexus. There is a "modder's resource", but no mods except a couple that "restore" the "reflex sight" to the "Service Rifle".

Documenting the AP cost differences between weapon and modifications seems like something the community would benefit from further testing, if you are so inclined.

There is a mod called "Neotropics Weapon Stats Display" which will display the VATS Action Points of a weapon. Suggest reading "HUD-UI-Menu issues" article before installing.
