FPS hovering around 30 AMD

I'd like to start a thread here for any FPS fixes that people find with AMD processors or Radeon cards.

I'm currently running an overclocked A10 7700k, which is close to a potatoe I know, but I've run games more intensive then this on high and I feel like I could be doing better.

My GPU is a 4gb R9 290x, which is nothing to fart at.

I understand I have a serious bottleneck here, and my issue may not be resolved until I stop using a toaster, but I figured I'd start the AMD/Radeon FPS support thread and see if anyone has some good advice.

PS: I'm running a heavily modded old skyrim and it looks good, there are differences and I'm surprised no one has mention the f*#@ing trees in SSE, they are clearly overhauled and look AMAZING. I want them in my current game. Anyway my heavily modded skyrim is running better then the SSE, which I know is not "Bethesda's Problem". I'm thinking there are some work arounds here and I'm interested in hearing them.

I have the same FPS issue.

I'm running a Intel® Core i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz with 8GB ram and an AMD RX470 4GB. The game auto detects graphic settings as ULTRA and I haven't tweaked any settings on AMD Crimson but still suffer frame rate drops from 60 to 30 especially when there're rock textures for some reason.

I run a modded Skyrim leg edition with no issues.

30 / 40 fps and everything set to max whit GTX 1080 it's that normal?

Hell no... you should be getting smooth 60 fps!

Sry i mean in 4k Res?

This should FIX bad framerates and all FPS drops for you, it did for me.

I had choppy framerate that would drop from 60 to 30 here and there, after disabling vsync in .ini's and forcing it through Nvidia inspector my framerates drastically increased, check post for results.

Even in 4K res. Unless you're running a slow processor, but with a GTX 1080 you should be running it at a smooth 60fps. The game default settings really screwed it up for modern GPU's. You can try disabling Vsync under the ini file.

I did that, but then it started creating very visible screen tears for me. I'm on a Samsung 60htz 1080 display with FreeSync on. Forcing it through AMD Crimson and my frame rate drops intermittently again and according to the Reddit thread on Polaris GPUs, a lot of AMD Rx users are experiencing the same. :(

Vsync always differ per setup i find, right now I am using in game vsync no problem yet on Fallout 4 and Oldrim I cannot use in game vsync without problems. Sometimes I have to use combo of frame limiter or driver vsync or ENB vsync or borderless, changes when I either update drivers or move to new hardware. New Vegas was particurly cunning, had to use limiter and borderless with ENB as no other combo worked properly.

I've had less issues since going from 7970ghz to 980ti, but my young brother has my 7970 now and he doesn't have half the issues I had. Just have to trial and error combos i guess.
