EldonGrant
I have a quest to go talk to Lod of Falkreath. Upon entering Falkreath a dragon has attacked the city, I helped kill the dragon then moved on to my quest only to find Lod dead!!! Is my quest forever doomed? I rested 48 hours to see if he would respawn or something.. no dice
jy02521671
that is what i hate about dragon attacks in this game, the concept sounds good but it is indeed very bad. 1) like you mentioned, dragon kills quest NPC. not all quest NPC are immortal. if one of them dies you cant finish the quest without concole cheat 2) dragonrend does not work, while it says 'force dragon to land', it actually only does 'preventing dragon from flying back up', imagine you are in a rocky mountain, and there is no where for the dragon to land, even if you manage to kill the dragon (drop its health to 0), it will not land down, instead it will just fly away, makes you so mad. 3) when a dragon fly over you, of cause you want to kill it right? because you are the dragonborn and its your job. now how do you get the dragon's attention if you are a melee fighter? arrows and magic both have limited range, unless dragon is in your face (it engages you first). unless you DO the main quest and get dragonrend and have incredible aim with your shout, you cant do a dam thing about a dragon fly over you. worse off, you cant fast travel when a dragon is flying around.....so frustrating Edited December 16, 2011 by jy02521671
pannonian
After a while, I just don't care about the dragons. They can do whatever the hell they want, especially after finishing the main quest. (Which is kinda werid, because I thought the dragon attacks would stop.) As of right now, they sound cool screaming in the distance but most part I don't bother with them anymore. Don't feel bad about the broken quest, I have at least 5 quests sitting in my inventory, which cannot be completed for one or another bug or glitch. As of right now, I just visit the dungeons randomly and keep cool looking items for display in my house. The game with all the "radiant" quests kinda lost flavor for me. vertex23
We need a mod that increases the health of NPCs. That will most likely solve NPC dying to dragon attacks (Because really, they die in one claw swipe). Other than that, I don't mind quest people getting killed - adds to the RP element of each characters story. To answer your question, OP: Yes, the quest is ruined. I'm not sure if he's the catalyst for the quest, or just someone who tells you "Hey, go here"
Handofbane
He is required to start his related quest. If you can resurrect him with the console, do so (open console, target his body, then type "resurrect" without the quotes, hit enter and close the console). He should work fine after that.
