Vanilla SE - Flickering/Missing shadows, Structures missing when looking at certain angles

Hi,

So as many of you I got my hands on the SE of Skyrim, however I'm having very annoying problems with it, mainly: flickering shadows / light effects when moving camera (ie. Move camera a little bit to the right/left = shadows gone from ALL plants/bushes/trees)

I've went to Whiterun to check out the FPS in city, when standing on stairs at Dragonsreach I noticed an odd bug: When moving camera in certain angle/position literally whole part of the city on the right side would completely dissapear.

I tested this without any mods (not even fixes) and got those results, I've tried unofficial Skyrim patch for SE and that didn't seem to fix it either.

It's mostly noticeable (and very annoying btw) when running and moving mouse.

My .ini's are pure vanilla, everythiing is set to Ultra quality (Godrays OFF)

Here is some examples:

Shadows / light bug:

Slightly moved camera (Shadows gone)

Missing structures:

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem? As I said I have pure vanilla SE, tried with Unofficial Skyrim patch for SE and it didn't help.

I also have that issue with missing graphics at certain mouse angles. The picture is very choppy when I run and also has a vertical line down the center of the game. Any help or ideas?I have an MSI gaming laptop. i tried it vanilla and with only 2 mods installed, the Unofficial Patch and Alternate Start. Same thing happens for both. i uninstalled the game and am re-installing it to see if that helps.

I found the culprit of missing shadows / flicker, at least I think so.

Disable:

- Screen Space Ambient Occlusion
- Precipitation Occlusion
I disabled Screen Space Ambient Occlusion first then I tried the game - It's kind of hard to get right angle for it to bug out as the angle seems to be totally random, but to the point: It did flicker for a second so the bug was still there.
Then I disabled Precipitation Occlusion, for next 1 minute I was moving my camera in every possible angle, fast and slow to check if the shadows on rock on the right side and bushes on the left side would flicker / shadows would dissapear.
I didn't replicate the flicker/missing shadows bug successfully which means those 2 settings Bugfesta added are broken/bugged: Unless I was extremely unlucky and it just simply didn't bug out.
Try it and let me know results. I'm going to try replicate this bug with those setting turned OFF.
@Edit,
I replicated the bug successfully with those two settings turned OFF, I had to move mouse by (literally) 1mm for it to happen again, so yeah... it's not problem caused by those settings.

Hi,

you might try to disable godrays. For me it solved the problem with the "vertical line". Just try low quality as godrays are disabled on low by default (no need to reinstall the game for this).

@IE33: You just helped me to get rid of lots of "shadow stripes" with disabled Screen Space Ambient Occlusion. Thank you. :)

For the other graphic issues: Sorry, but no idea.

Hi,

just in case somebody cares:

While searching for a fix for the high cpu-usage at the start of the game, I came across this: http://www.gamepur.com/guide/24760-skyrim-special-edition-error-fix-black-screen-startup-transfer-old-saves.html "6: Fix for Low FPS"

Forcing SkyrimSE.exe (not the launcher - if you try it with the launcher.exe it won't work) to use the nvidia graphics (in case you have an intel too) seems to solve the bug with the vertical line and the "shadow stripes" too. I'm not quite sure as I don't know enough about graphic cards etc but probably the reason for those 2 bugs is the game trying to start on the intel graphic before "switching" to the nvidia one.

The performance didn't increase for me, but at least those 2 bugs were fixed and my cpu no longer runs at 100% at the start.

Sorry for bad English. I hope it somehow became clear.

The glitch is caused by meshes from Skyrim Original that haven't had their tangent data updated properly. In other words, one of your mods (converted from Skyrim Original) is causing this.

"Meshes, specifically NiTriShape Blocks that do NOT have proper Tangent and Bitangent data will render as psychodelic glitchy messes that turn black at certain angles in the Special Edition."

I encountered this crazy flickering shadows/polygons bug while I was updating one of my mods for SSE. I thought I might need to get a new video card until I read about the tangent issue on another thread. I updated the tangents in my mods meshes and voila, the shadow glitches were cured :)
