mkborgelt13
Hi guys, I've been playing OWB for a few hours and have some major confusion. After the foreshadowing laid down in Sierra Madre, and community's opinions on OWB, I was expecting more of a dramatic, sombre, emotional experience. Now... what I find myself in, is very silly! Not complaining, just... not what I was expecting. I mean... some of the Think Tank's comments, especially over loudspeaker, the robotic dogs, the dog-cannon, mock-up high school, etc, I'm at a loss. Is this a comedic story? I'm baffled and wondering if I missed something. It's feels like my character has lost his mind in more than the literal sense. dubiousintent
Consider the historical setup: Isolated "think tank" filled with geeks who never really emotionally got over their high-school rivalries. Opposed by another "self-exiled" nerd who continuously mocks them with psychological warfare of the "my robot is bigger and better than your enhanced biological experiments" variety. Amplify with several hundred years of isolation, the attitude the rest of the world is merely experimental subjects, and an innate sense of superiority with no one and nothing to pop their balloon. Just another social experiment, only this time not directly run by Vault-Tec. Of course it evolved into absurdity. (Says something about the pre-war era, doesn't it?) Your character is supposed to be somewhat bewildered. As for the Sierra Madre foreshadowing: one isolated ego-maniac's attitude about another isolated community of ego-maniacs? Christine is the only one other than Elijah with any experience of both environments, and she spends most of the time injured and unable to say anything. Not exactly reliable sources of information. The game tries to foil your expectations. -Dubious- Edited October 30, 2016 by dubiousintent
Ladez
It's not what I was expecting from OWB when I first played it either, and part of the reason I can't stand that DLC. The comedic elements in it as well as the very foundation of the gameplay is annoying and distasteful.
JoKelly
OWB essentially uses and hypes the campy atmosphere and stereotypical mad scientists of RL movies of the 50's. I both enjoy and hate OWB for variety of reasons but play it on every play through. I still think Muggy would make a great companion LOL.
mkborgelt13
I can't wait to turn Muggy on and see what his deal is, along with the other appliances. I am definitely getting a "Rusty Venture" vibe from the DLC. All those men*tats lying around... Edited October 30, 2016 by mkborgelt13
YanL
Toaster = best character of all time. I do hate a bitt OWB, is my lest favorite DLC. I like the silliness, I love the ending, but I play NV in very hard and dont have desire to play in a less dificult seting. Well, OWB is ABSURD, the enemies are real sponge bullets, their appear fom nowhere and we have a bunch of then (once, I saw FIFTEEN night stalker in the screen, true story). More then one time I have to finish the DLC without explore all the location, because I brought a """""""""""""low amount""""""""""""" of ammo. At least the rewards are outstanding. Awesome gear, free perks, new implants.....you can change your traits, get a unlimited supply of stealth boys, stimpaks and ingredients for food and even craft skill books. RoyBatterian
I love the campyness of OWB, they were obviously fans of old sci-fi and MST3K. I also like the potty humor and sillyness of it. Dead Money is still my favorite (even if I hate the speakers and that damn bell) OWB is definitely second. The Toaster and Muggy are such awesome characters. Lonesome Road is next on my list, and Honest Hearts is last because I don't like being preached at. Each DLC has it's own vibe, and that's what I like about them. Every one is different and unique, and that's a special thing.
Ladez
I like Honest Hearts the most because it's the only one that really feels like it naturally extends the game, both in terms of gameplay and thematics. It also features some of my favorite characters and weaponry. The rest of them are all really experimental, with varying degrees of success. I would have much preferred that they stuck to what made the base game good.
JoKelly
Keep in mind that the Brains in a Jar have pretty much gone insane after two centuries not to mention what Mobius has done. mkborgelt13
I ended up doing away with the Think Tank, but I took a liking to Dr Mobius, so he's all right. I like how the appliances have their own thing going on, Muggy said something like "While you were away, Biological Research Station told me a coffee cup fell into his intake chute. When I reached in to get it, he... he... seeded me." Muggy!! You're coming with me. This place is no longer safe. ;)
