dw208 Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 with such awesome environments, i dont like to fast travel, but how about a easier way of getting around then having to run everywhere?there's lots of lakes and rivers in skyrim and even some cool rapids and i think a usable (maybe craftable) boat of some kind could appeal to people. ideas? feedback? cheers all
jwcurry83 Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 I thought the same thing the first time I saw one of those small boats along the waterline. It seems to me that all the functionality is already in the game, you can ride a horse (and I know that other mods are being worked on for mounting other animals). Boats would obviously need to be restricted to water only; as not to go rowing down the road, lol. You would also need a rowing animation of some sort; which my guess would be the hard part (although a modified sweeping motion from the maids might do the trick). Another thought is to implement it like a carriage, where it will take you to certain ports throughout the game or something of that nature (not as much fun, but easier to implement). This sounds like it could be done once the creation kit is released. Anyone else have thoughts?
dw208 Posted December 18, 2011 Author Posted December 18, 2011 i was thinking maybe just a small boat that you can put in your inventory (not wholly realistic i know). drop it into water and activate it to sit in it. movement keys to paddle/row forwards and steer...?the boat models i've seen sitting around look kinda too wide to fit down some of the narrower passages, could be wrong... though being able to fit under lower bridges would be a requirement.

Vikings used to carry boat on land, from shore to shore, so maybe thinking about a small boat in the inventory wouldn't be a bad idea.Anyway, using canoes that we see on rivers wouldn't be half bad.
Velyanthe Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I agree with this idea. On my way to Solitude, I found a boat on the water and was disappointed to see that I could not use it to cross the river. A small boat in the inventory could work, if it is magical and can change size.
scottenman2005 Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I think the MAGIC boat thing would ruin Immersion. IDK How bout a guy on the shore near a boat. Small quest to use it. "Hey, you can use my Boat for FREE!, Just pay me 500 septums and get me 10 (Random items)" haha Boat resets when you fast travel and goes back to location you 1st got it.
