Is it possible to "splice" animations from two different weapon types?

I'm not very familiar with the animation mechanics in Skyrim (really working with them for the first time).

I'm trying to create a weapon that uses the block/bash animations of a one-handed weapon, but uses the attack animation of a staff. I've found the "Anim Type" parameter in Weapon -> Arts and Sound -> Animation. This lists options including "OneHandedSword" and "Staff," but I'm not sure where I can find these animations to edit them / create a new one.

This info is oddly missing from the Weapons page on CK Wiki. Anyone know how this works?

"Oddly" missing? It's simply not supported by CK. It would require to fundamentally change the behavior implementation, and that for that there exists neither a publicly available tool, nor Bethesda's behavior project files to make changes to them.

What you could do is use the FNIS "Alternate Animation" functionality, with which you can define a set of animations which replace the vanilla ones, and then assign that set to certain custom weapons.

For details read the AA chapter in the FNIS Modders' Documentation. There is also a script example in the FNIS download file to assign custom animations to a katana. What you want to do is basically the same thing.

Thank you! I'll look into FNIS.

By "missing" I meant that all info regarding the animation options is entirely missing from the weapons page, preventing me from learning anything about those options. I wasn't expecting a tutorial on exactly what I wanted.

There are no animations options for weapons, since animations are part of an actor. The weapon TYPE automatically determines the animations used for a specific actor.

Generally Bethesda is extremly short on animation information. Since you can't do ANYTHING without changing behavior files, and since they don't provide us with any means to change behaviors, they apparently think it's unnecessary to provide us with any useful information.
