I can't open the N.M.M.

This might be the wrong forum but I don't know where else to go. I have Skyrim S.E. and downloaded some mods through the start window. When I tried to find the load order to check it I couldn't find it in the Skyrim start area so I went to my N.M.M. and didn't see it there so I re-scanned my games and when I clicked on Skyrim S.E. Nexus stopped working and closed. I have tried to restart it a number of times but all I can get is an error message that says "Nexus Mod Manager is not set up to work with Skyrim. If Skyrim is installed, re-scan for installed games from the change game toolbar item." I don't know how to re-scan if I can't open N.M.M. As is obvious I am not very good at this sort of thing so I hope someone will be able to walk me through fixing this problem.

P.S.

 

I also have regular Skyrim, Fallout 4 and up until now I have not had a problem with N.M.M.

Not necessarily. I'm using two versions of the Nexus Mod Manager. Version 5.5.8 is set up to run all of my games save one. I also use the outdated version 6.1.4 for running Fallout 4 alone. Both versions are working fine for me.
