immagikman
Short answer.Steal everythingSmith everythingEnchant Everything Get your talking up to 100 so you can take the perk to give every merchant an extra 1000gold.Or console yourself the gold upfront and save the running around.
Shantih
Some enchantments are pretty interesting in term of added value. I'm thinking of the Banish (iirc) enchantment on weapons for instance.

Khorak
find those 24 stones(no stone unturned quest), the "perk" it adds will have you swimming in gems I started chucking all my gems into the trough in my Windhelm living room. It's filling up disturbingly fast even without that perk. Skyrim can probably payroll a campaign of world conquest just by clearing out every dungeon in the province and building a gem mountain somewhere in the plains west of Whiterun. thesapien
I can't really say how the alchemy is the best (I mean fastest) way to get rich since I haven't met any merchant with more than 1100 gold, but it's for sure the best in the ratio of item weight and value. But personally I earned money in another way: I collected all the daggers i was finding in the loot, enchanted it with petty, lesser and common soulgems (also had plenty of them and since I used a bound sword they were always full). Thus I reached two goals - level-up enchanting and earn enough money to buy all the houses in the game I wanted. You can also try crafting jewellery. It's also pretty easy to find components - gold ore can be transmuted from iron ore using transmute spell. And there are many gems in the loot or found as products of ore-mining. But this can get pretty boring if you don't have a lot of magicka. Also a good way in the beginning of the way is to earn money chopping the firewood. I spent something like 20 real-life minutes chopping the wood to earn 3000 i was lacking to buy the first house in the game. This is also a pretty boring process, but you can have a cup of tea whilst doing so ;) And a useful tip - since the prices are affected by speechcraft - don't forget to go get blessing of Zenithar (10% better prices) or Dibella (+15 speechcraft), also get a blessing if there's an altar near (for example, if you're in Solitude, there are altars of 8 divines) and find a local beggar and give him/her a coin) - Gift of charity - another +10 speechcraft temporarily. Of course, you don't need all these if you are selling porions worth something like 5k gold, since the merchants don't have sufficient funds anyway. Excellent tips. I second all that. The part about jewelry is exactly what I've been doing with my current character. My previous character was all about alchemy and selling potions. This time, I'm in love with smithing. I would add to be careful giving into the temptation of transmuting all iron ore into gold ore. You can end up with a lot of gold jewelry and no one to sell to unless you quick travel a lot. I haven't done the math but have found that making some steel armor pays very well and that having both makes selling it all much easier on the same day. Making more armor and weapons also lets you improve those items right after making them. Maybe I just like the satisfaction from mining the ore and hunting the leather to final product of my best crafting and all the steps in between. Up next for me is enchanting... Can I enchant improved weapons and armor?
Shantih
Can I enchant improved weapons and armor? Of course you can enchant non magical weapons and armours. The actual value will depend on the type of enchantment.

So I can start from scratch by mining ore and hunting for leather, craft my own weapons and armor, improve them, and then enchant them on top of it all, all the while learning each step and improving my ability to do each. This game is awesome. It makes me want to get a real job in a real world, perhaps working for myself and my community, maybe also using hard money like in this game. Now I just to find a real world that functions in a reality based on such production. (I live in the US)
Shantih
You'll still need empty soul gems to trap souls (buying filled gems can be a bit pricey). The easiest way is probably to use an item with soul trap on it (but you must already know that). I can't help you with the real world thing though. ;)

If you improve an item before enchanting it, the improvement usually (but not always) is lost. The only safe way is to get the Arcane Smithing perk so that you can improve items after enchanting them. Regardless, is gold that hard to come across? I haven't hit 100,000 yet but I am only level 40.
