Randomly Generated Quests

As everyone knows by now, Skyrim uses the Radiant quest system which allows for the creation of randomly generated missions. I'd like to see a mod that works like that.

There are already a few interesting mods for Oblivion that can provide ideas and... code:

and of course more could be implemented collecting ingredients for an alchemist, or Ayleid manufacts, or hunting for bandits.

Another possibility is something like when the victim of a theft in Skyrim sends a number of hired thugs to search you down (or in Oblivion, when Avidius tracks you down in order to gain his revenge), or the Thalmor execution order, etc.

Given the amount of existing mods, obse, and systems like the ARES Engine, a "Radiant Story"-like mod should be feasible.

What do you think?

(edit: added "Player Hunters Fame and Infamy")

But most of the code already exists. Random tasks, escort missions (60 npcs), courier jobs, treasures and more are already provided by those mods. Quests like collecting ingredients, manufacts, hunting for bandits (black bows) or being hunted (avidius) are found in game. Even without ARES these things alone would make for a nice Radiant Story surrogate.

This mod has some repeatable random alchemical ingredient collection quests in it: Mages Guild Quests

I didn't really like the random tasks mod because some of the tasks were almost impossible. It seems like it would ask you to collect a whole set of rare books, which might take 40 hours of play time, and then they would pay you like 100 gold for your efforts. The idea behind that mod and the coding it uses are nice though.

I didn't like the escort mission mod because the people you escort are so very fragile that they always die and never survive, and then you have to wait like three days before you can lead your next client to an untimely death.

I think I'd want to see just how it was done in Skyrim to start with. If it was all just scripting and not hardcoded or something it'd be something that could be remade for Oblivion.

But I'd share the others' opinions: Randomly generated quests aren't really fun enough to be worth it; more entertaining to just play some of the complete quest mods.
