WilliamLB007
Hello! I am sorry to bother you (any of you who read this) because I am sure you are busy, but please hear me out. I'm totally new to this modding thing. :/ I've got around 25 different mods I want to use. I've got a clean install of the game plus one specifically for modding... and I am sure I am messing up somewhere. I'm not sure what order I need them all in either. I've got a legit copy of FNV with all of the DLC. I've got LOOT, FNVEdit, and I seen another one I need to get from the first "hot" topic in this forum. I'm working on that now, but again, I'm really newb-shy here with this stuff and some help (and gentle nudging in the right directions) would be a big help. If I give you a list of the mods I want to use, can you help me out? The list is... Caesar's New Regime - Legion Overhaul Rudy's ENB 4 gig Fix NVAC YUP for all DLC Delilah Improved Sunny Smiles - Normal Armor Better Veronica + Improved Sandbox Desmond Harper GilbertCompanionv1dot0 RaidergirlCyan Joanna 2.1 Vulpes Inculta Companion Updated Unlimited Companions Beware of Girl Type 3 Collision Meshes FNV NMC's Texture Repack Large 1-3 EVE Wasteland Flora Overhaul v2.9b Sexxxy Card Revamp 3.0 WoNV All in One This is not a dress-38015-1 Version 1_0-47621- Weapon Mods Expanded Mod Configuration Menu Now, I have used the Nexus Mod Manager / added files I had to download manually. My machine is normally capable of running the game with ultra high quality graphics. I am using Windows 7 (x64). I did the Archive Invalidation too. I even ran the game once, first, before trying to mod to make sure it set my graphics correctly. Some of my questions are... I installed Nexus Mod Manager to it's own directory so I could keep all of my mods in one place regardless of the game (Fallout 3, New Vegas, Witcher 2, and State of Decay were all found by the NMM). Will it automatically put the mods in the modded game folder for the right game, or when I download the mods do I have to put them in the New Vegas folder itself? Next, do I have to use the Archive Invalidation after each individual mod, or can I do it after I've installed them all? What order should I install them in, or does it matter? Will the NMM automatically know which order to put them? Is there any way to get as many of these mods that I want to use working together? Or am I asking for too much? Is there something else I am missing that I should have? Or are there better choices of mods that will do what I want to do? My goal is to make the game look better, add some more companions (particularly the girls or at least Legion friendly ones), make the Legion look and feel better than the wimps they normally are, improve my weapons, and then add some things like the custom cards for Caravan or the Casinos. I don't care about making the girls naked, or adding new armor / a lot of extra content. If you (the reader), who is obviously an expert (or at least better than me) at this, could help me out, that would be amazing. I am sorry if I put this in the wrong place / forum. I will gladly redirect somewhere else if it is more appropriate. Thank you for your time and consideration in advance. -WLB
DoctorKaizeld
Will it automatically put the mods in the modded game folder for the right game, or when I download the mods do I have to put them in the New Vegas folder itself?when you install NMM and run it the first time it will detect the compatible games. after selecting the ones you are going to mod at some point it will bring up a game selection list. this will allow you to change which game you wish to mod. after choosing it will show you the interface for that game and the mods you have downloaded and installed. the manager will automatically install mods as you activate them. really most of the time you just have to double click a mod and wait for it to install and your good to go (note this does not include mods that require other mods read the install directions for each mod) at any time you can switch to a different game as well. you do not have to store the mods in the New Vegas folder. Next, do I have to use the Archive Invalidation after each individual mod, or can I do it after I've installed them all?you can do it whenever after installing the mods. i usually run it before i run the game after installing new mods. What order should I install them in, or does it matter?yes it matters. read the install instructions for each mod. also run LOOT after installing your mods. in some cases location doesnt matter in others it is very important. Will the NMM automatically know which order to put them?sort of. run LOOT though it does a better job. Is there any way to get as many of these mods that I want to use working together?nothing in the mods you listed should cause issues that i am aware of. Or am I asking for too much?asking for too much? 25 mods that dont really overlap in any way is not asking much at all. asking for too much comes when you try to get all of the texture overhauls and 200+ mods to work together and not have any crashing. your fine with the list above. but a quick suggestion check out project Nevada: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40040/? Is there something else I am missing that I should have?the NCR overhaul. look at the Caesar's New Regime page and get the recommended mods. they work great with the Legion overhaul. I am sorry if I put this in the wrong place / forum. I will gladly redirect somewhere else if it is more appropriate.oh this is totally the wrong forum. should have posted in the mod talk forums. dont worry though i asked an admin to move it. Will it automatically put the mods in the modded game folder for the right game, or when I download the mods do I have to put them in the New Vegas folder itself? As far as I know of NMM will place them where they belong unless the mod author says they have to be manually installed. Next, do I have to use the Archive Invalidation after each individual mod, or can I do it after I've installed them all?I'm pretty sure that you only have to invalidate once you have installed how ever many you want. That's how I do it and no problems. What order should I install them in, or does it matter? Will the NMM automatically know which order to put themUse Loot or Boss to order your mods. Is there any way to get as many of these mods that I want to use working together? Or am I asking for too much? Is there something else I am missing that I should have? Or are there better choices of mods that will do what I want to do?read the mods descriptions, many mods list the conflicts (if any) that are found. plus check their forum threads if they have one. if you have problems and its not listed your going to have to use FNVEDIT, or something like it and lots of google searches or worse start disabling mods one by one till you find the one or ones giving you problems. My goal is to make the game look better, add some more companions (particularly the girls or at least Legion friendly ones), make the Legion look and feel better than the wimps they normally are, improve my weapons, and then add some things like the custom cards for Caravan or the Casinos. If you (the reader), who is obviously an expert (or at least better than me) at this, could help me out, that would be amazing.Fall out character overhaul is a pretty popular one for general NPC overhauls. Lots of overhaul types of mods for just about everything in the game are available. Just be sure to read the descriptions, some of them do not play well with others or have other problems. Good luck, I am not an expert, though I did sleep in a Holiday Inn express once.
WilliamLB007
Thank you for the advice. A problem I am having with LOOT is that is keeps wanting to redirect to my clean install of the game and isn't showing the modded one. I went in and manually changed it to the directory of the modded one, tagged the apply, and then refreshed, and the thing is still showing me the unmodded one. I've tried closing it out and reloading it, and it still refuses to show me the modded one. This is, in part, why I feel like I am missing something. EDIT: I am not a complete moron, lol. I did spend two or three days looking over vids on youtube that modders recommend (particularly Skyttz or however he spells his name). I thought I went out of my way to find mods that are compatible, too. That's why this is boggling my mind. As a side note, I'm not really interested in updating the NCR. I don't like them much anyway and don't really care about them so much. Edited November 7, 2016 by WilliamLB007

dubiousintent
For your issue with LOOT finding the correct path: Your problem is that the registry is pointing to the initial Steam game installation path, which apparently is your "clean install". LOOT is not the only app that relies upon the registry to locate the game. You will be better off to swap the "clean install" and "modded" locations around. That is easily enough done simply by renaming the folders (unless you have them on different drive letters). As for a guide to install order, I have found this one (even though written for Oblivion) to work well with FNV. You might want to also look over the "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article to avoid some of the pitfalls in modding this game. -Dubious- Edited November 7, 2016 by dubiousintent
WilliamLB007
Ugh. Okay. I got LOOT squared away and doing the right thing. I used the Wrye Flash too, following the directions step by step since I can understand them better than text on a screen like in the "hot" topic at the top of this forum. Game loads up and gets about a second and a half into the introduction music, and then crash to desktop. This is ridiculously annoying. I seriously am about to wipe all of Fallout NV (both installs), the NMM, LOOT, all the downloads, and all of the editor things, and start from scratch. One of the things I think I am getting hung up on now is the difference between the Nexus Mod Manager, the Mod Organizer, LOOT, Wrye Flash, and FNVEdit. Why do I need all four? What's the point in all of them? What is the priority of those to use and why? I've looked all over and it appears everyone is using something different. Isn't there some sort of standard guideline? Is there anyone who has a legit, "Do this. Do this. Do this. Do this. Don't do that. Do that instead, and now you have what you're after." This is really frustrating. I don't need more programs and things to keep track of. I need less. All of this about Merging and Bashing, and Load Orders and whatnot is gibberish to me. What's the point of doing a merge or a bash if I can only use one. I appreciate the input and the attempt to assist, but seriously. At this point I'm just getting angry. Edited November 8, 2016 by WilliamLB007
JoKelly
if all your wanting to do is load some mods into the game, then you can probably do with out FNVedit and wyre, though you can make bash patches with Wyre to condense the number of mods running. FnvEdit can be used to find out what might be missing when FNV crashes on loading for instance. otherwise you probably wont touch it most of the time if your not modding. you only need one mod loader so pick between NMM, MO, or FOMM. MO can be a nightmare for first time users. Loot and boss order your mods, a bad load order can crash your game on start up or in game and you only need one, I use Loot because its still supported and you only need to run it when you add or remove mods to the game. as far as your CTD, try this disable the bash patch, re enable what ever it disabled and start the game. I've had far more problems with Wyre's patchs than with out. if that fails, then fire up FNVEDIT, a box with all your installed mods will appear, the active ones will be checked. hit okay and wait for it to load, if there is something like a master missing FNVedit will stop on that error and you will be able to see what is wrong. WilliamLB007
The crash to desktop was my original problem after installing the mods... It was why I was looking for help in the first place. It just seemed to me that all the help I was finding was having me get more stuff to check, double check, fix, reorder (or whatever), to fix the problem... Yet... I still got the same problem. I'm not sure, but I think I may have installed something in the wrong order initially... I'm honestly not sure. If I had somebody nearby who is great at modding I'd simply show them what I am working with, what mods I wanted to use, and let them figure it out. I have this funny feeling that the problem is something insanely simple that can be fixed in like 2 minutes or it's going to be something crazy serious and complicated to fix. :/
JoKelly
I just noticed you have the 4 gig fix, try uninstalling it. I know that when I used that the game crashed and crashed hard. aside from that, it sounds like either a screwed up load order or a missing master. question did you install Rudy's using NMM?
