Adding Dialouge

Is there a n00b-friendly tutorial for adding dialogue to Skyrim characters?

I'd like to add some lines to the NPC spouses in the game, and perhaps some generic followers as well. Nothing complex, but as someone who enjoys immersion, I want to be able to have more to say to my wife/husband beyond "Made any money today?" Something as simple as:

Me: "It's good to see you dear."

Them: "It's good to see you too dearest."

This also would be a springboard for me to get into other aspects of modding, leading up to creating my own fully-voiced companion. Thus far I've done a great deal of texturing and voicework on my own, but I'd like to extend my skillset a bit, starting with this small bit of scripting.

Dialogues can be modified and added when the CK is out, but until then i don't think it's possible. Don't shoot me if im wrong, but i have been spending to much time with fnvedit, skyedit and tessnip, and i have seen nothing that change dialogues yet, but again, as i said, i can be something i missed. :) But i did make dialogues in morrowind and oblivion without much pain, it's adding sound and limpsync that is the difficult part i think. Can't say i remember that scripting was a big part of the dialogue making though, but again i could mix this up with the aurora toolset for nvm and nvm2. Edited by Sk8on

That's helpful to know, if a bit disappointing. I'll keep feelers out to see if there's anything that's been overlooked, but it looks like I'll have to keep on with my other projects until the CK is out.

Thank you.

What if I just wanted to replace some of the audio files with recordings of my own? I remember trying to do that with Morrowind and it plain didn't work. Didn't make it crash, though; instead, no audio file was registered when it came time for certain characters to use the audio file that would've been there.

So, again- just replacing audio files with my own...what would that take? I know of plenty of mods (Wilhelm Scream, Swearing Mudcrabs/Trolls, Auto-tuned Bears) where modders have recorded their own voices (or taken soundbytes) and replaced the reaction noise with those files, so I can't imagine this should merely be passed off as "CK-only", like the OP's original query.

For those you just replace some ingame sounds with your custom ones. You can do it for dialogue too but subtitles and lips wouldn't be matching. You are able to edit the dialogue options and subtitles in tessnip (I mean not add other options just edit those you have - you can add too of course but it's a buggy and full of issues process for now as far as I know) but I'm not sure it works properly since quite often some corruption occurs.

@ DOPR5--

Unfortunately, I don't have any good advice for you on this subject. But I did want to say that I think your idea about adding dialogue for the player in regards to their spouse is a good one. I think it would be nice to be able to come home and greet your spouse warmly, as opposed to walking in the door and asking straightaway for money or a meal. I hope very much that you're able to find a way to make it work. If and when you do, let me know if you can. I'll try to check back here from time to time. :)
