  1. Resurrecting this thread because I'm also having issues getting AI to work with Oblivion. I'm playing it through Steam and can play with some mods active, but no replacers function. Manual mesh replacement doesn't work, neither do manually edited textures. I'm using the default AI that comes with Vortex. I tried the OBMM timestamp trick that DrakeTheDragon mentioned above, but it causes my game to crash when loading. Has there been any fix, or any consensus on what is causing this issue? I'm at a point where I may have to stop using Vortex for anything, since it's been causing me nothing but frustration.
  2. I browse the Nexus, literally, every day to see what new mods have been posted for my favorite games. Becoming a premium member is quite accurately an insignificant gesture compared to how much I use and appreciate the existence and maintenance of this website. I have been modding Bethesda games since Oblivion (although I post very little of what I create), and I have relied on The Nexus as my primary - indeed, my sole source - for Bethesda mods in that time. It's vividly apparent how much time, effort, tears and sweat go into these sites, and it really is the least I can do to express my gratitude to you and all your staff for dedicating yourselves toward keeping Nexus so accessible and friendly to the masses of users that come here every day. Thank you so much for that.
  3. I still play UT2k4 on a regular basis with a handful of similarly inclined friends. In the days before FPSBanana was entirely taken over by Counter Strike mods, File Front was the go-to source for all of my UT custom characters and mutators. Bless you and your staff for doing so much to keep these files accessible. Gaming is a form of art, and modding is an expansion on that art (almost an art in of itself). Like you, I can't fathom seeing so many classic files just melt into the ether. Big kudos to all the Nexus staff. I'm proud of you.
  4. Here's a simple mod that would help me out a lot - changing the sound the game makes when you can't interact with an object. You know how it is, you go up to the locked door and click on it, even though you know it's locked, and the game gives you that sound that tells you it registered the attempt, but isn't going to let you do it. In the vanilla game, it sounds like the crack of a baseball bat hitting a low left-fielder. But I would very much like to see someone replace that sound with either the Fallout 3 default, or a light buzzer, or anything better and less obtrusive.
  5. I've been modding textures since Oblivion, and am certainly no stranger to how easy it can be to break an entire installation with sloppy or half-arsed "tweaking", but I'm only now starting to pussyfoot my way through TESVEdit and the Creation Kit. Thus far I've had the most luck with TESVEdit, as it seems the most straightforward and descriptive. For my first few alterations, I've been changing the stats on a mod-added weapon which has a great mesh and a custom texture (by yours truly) but was lacking in stats and cost a whopping 15 iron, 15 steel and 6 leather strips to make, and most annoyingly, was not temparable. Figuring out how to alter the forging recipe was easy, but I'm not sure how to create a grinding stone upgrade recipe. I've already backed up the original unaltered file, and have a stable version of the mod with the altered construction recipe, but I'm hesitant to start creating filters or aditional values without having some idea of the direction I should be taking, or even what dropdown menu I should be in. I'm fairly certain from just what little I've already seen that I need to add a value/filter to the "Constructible Object" dropdown with the recipe, but I'm not sure how to do so properly, or what settings need to be set in order to have it work properly without breaking the esp. Is there a way to port over a recipe from another weapon, or use say the steel sword recipe as a template? Anyone willing to nursemaid me a bit would have my gratitude. D.O.P.R
  6. Hmm. This has some promise! My biggest strength however is in texturing, since I know next to nothing about using the CK, scripting or 3D modeling. I've done some voicework, and now that I have a new mic and a new soundcard on the way, the quality of my recording should be much much clearer. If any of those skills are useful I'd love to help.
  7. That's helpful to know, if a bit disappointing. I'll keep feelers out to see if there's anything that's been overlooked, but it looks like I'll have to keep on with my other projects until the CK is out. Thank you.
  8. Is there a n00b-friendly tutorial for adding dialogue to Skyrim characters? I'd like to add some lines to the NPC spouses in the game, and perhaps some generic followers as well. Nothing complex, but as someone who enjoys immersion, I want to be able to have more to say to my wife/husband beyond "Made any money today?" Something as simple as: Me: "It's good to see you dear." Them: "It's good to see you too dearest." This also would be a springboard for me to get into other aspects of modding, leading up to creating my own fully-voiced companion. Thus far I've done a great deal of texturing and voicework on my own, but I'd like to extend my skillset a bit, starting with this small bit of scripting.
  9. An interesting bug that has been driving me nuts for the last few hours trying to solve. I installed "Curse of Hircine" and "Deadly Reflex 6" recently, both mods that I've had before on a previous install without issue. This time around, I noticed that from time to time, my camera would bug out when I tried to sit anywhere, and when standing up, would then seem to center itself about three feet left of where my character was actually standing. At first, I didn't pay it much mind since it wasn't game-crippling. But thinking that it was an issue with the skeleton NIF, I downloaded "Coronerras Maximum Compatibility Skeletons". Now the camera is centered about two meters up, way above my characters head. I immediately uninstalled Coronerras, making sure the new skeleton NIFs were removed, expecting Oblivion to recreate the files on the next run and solve the issue. But it didn't. Since then, I've been struggling for the last hour or more trying to find out what it is that is affecting my 1st person cam, and how I can fix it. I've been checking and unchecking mods in OBMM, tried a few other "Compatibility" skeletons, even adjusting the "iLocation Y=0" setting in the INI (taking care to keep an unmodded backup in case I futzed it up worse). Does anyone know of a solution to this frustrating situation beyond a full reinstall? Is there perhaps a mod that alters the 1st person cam, or a setting I can alter to bring it more in line with my char's actual size? I'd really appreciate some expert advice.
  10. Hmmm...I've never had any NM saved as DXT5 work. But then, it's very likely I wasn't using the proper DXT for the texture itself. I'll try DXT3 for the alpha and DXT5 for the NM like you suggest and see what the result is. Thanks for the help!
  11. I've been re-texturing FO3 for as long as I've had that wonderful Nvidia plugin for Photoshop. But recently I've been having some trouble with alphas. The few "how to texture Fallout" vids I've seen have all recommended I save normal maps as DXT3, and regular textures as DXT1 (no alpha), but that results in many items, like chain link fences, the shopping carts, and other items with black spaces where all the see-through "holes" should be. I at least get a warning before saving them "Warning! Alpha information will be lost!", but none of the other formats seem to work. Now I've tried saving the same textures as DXT1 (one bit alpha) without success. So far I've taught myself just about everything I know about modding, so I haven't had any education as far as what the difference is between the various DXTs (other then DXT1 if for textures, DXT3 is for normal maps). None of the tutorials I saw here helped (unless I missed it), so if anyone could fill me in, or point me to something that will help me, I'd be much obliged.
  12. DLCs installed ok, and all standard messages popped up outside the v101. I'm going to start adding some of my handmade textures, FOMM and other such things, but it's looking promising. If nothing else, I have the vanilla game to play with.
  13. I did as BBen suggested and still got CTDs, but when I started through the Fallout Launcher and set the game to run on Windowed mode, it started up perfectly, and took me all the way through the birthday party without a hitch. I'm going to install the DLCs, and try again. Hopefully I found the solution, but I'm not going to assume anything yet.
  14. I don't know how many times this has been asked before, but none of the fixes I've seen so on the official Bethesda forums helped, so I thought "Why am I dealing with them still? The Nexus people probably know more then these schmucks." So here I am. I recently built myself a new PC, and part of that rebuild was installing Windows 7. I had been assured by others that Fallout, Oblivion, and all my other games were totally compatible with Win7, so I had no worries. But when I installed my GOTYE FO3, it CTDed before even getting to the main menu. I tried compatibility mode for XP and Vista (all service packs), as well as Administrator Mode, but to no avail. Here's my system info (I have the full DxDiag as well if anyone needs it): Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100226-1909) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. So what am I doing wrong? D.O.P.R
