Surprise! More CTD problems........

I REALIZE EVERYONE IS SICK TO DEATH OF POSTS ABOUT CTDs, BUT:

I initially installed the game and all seemed to work well, and shortly after setting out on the Fighters Guild eggmine quest from Balmora, and the game started to suddenly CTD after about five minutes whenever I loaded.

Despite tweaking the AI distance, draw distance, shadows off, matched & mismatched resolutions at all levels, turned sound off, shut down all other operating programs, defragged and scandisk-ed my PC, even reinstalled the game completely, and it is still CTDing after a few minutes of play. I tried to use the frame rate optimizer program and all it did was lockup. I even reinstalled Windows 98 SE, and the problem persists.

I've tried all the tricks, tips, tweaks and recommendations on here - and I still crash to desktop after about five minutes of playing.

I've got the new GOTY edition, with everything patched as it should. I've updated Windows, BIOS, vid card, sound card.

I'm running Win 98 SE, on an AMD Athalon XP 2.1, 256 megs RAM, a GeForce 4 Ti4200 128 meg, a GA-7VAXP mboard w/ integral AC97 sound. I`ve upgraded to Direct X 9.0b as well.

I run Unreal 2, BF 1942 / Desert Combat 0.6, Call of Duty, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and they all work just great. I bought this as GOTY, after hearing how great it was, and I am now thoroughly disgusted after reading all the problems everyone has had with it. It seems to be a great game - IF you can get it to work.

I`m about ready to take these GOTY edition CDs out and sight my rifle in with them. Does anyone know what else I can try? Is this an issue with the AMD or what?

Woow, looks like you got one of a hell of a prob there northerner, I am also sick of this problem but I'm not as desperate as you though, I have a copy of the game, and have only reinstalled once, and, AAAARGH

Morrowind is dangerous for your health unless you got BB (also dangerous to your health)

Almelexia's post deleted. Served no real relevence to the thread and just repeated what had already been said. Also deleted your double thread post. Please don't do that ;)

Wow, that sounds... bad. If you've tried every tweak listed on the CTD thread and all that... and with those specs... and you can run all those other games just fine... I'm truly stumped

I dnt know mate....if i were you i'd get rid of Windows 98 and upgrade to XP.

Also i ddnt read anything about you upgrading ur video and audio drivers, apparently that affects CTD's heaps. But even if my advice helps i believe u, along with every one else including me, will still have the occasional CTD's but at a more tolerant frequency.

My last advice: F5, F5 and more F5

I really hope u can get it workin cos its a fantastic game, just make sure to keep ur appointment book free cos its gona take a lot of time off ur life...

I'm having similar problems, myself, actually... sufficient CPU, Memory, hard rive space, using Win2K, etc... and I get dumped to desktop for no discernable reason every now and then. It's not consistent, it's not a heat issue.

A common thread over the last few of these threads that I've seen is that people are using the GOTY edition of the game, which I also have. Is it possible that the GOTY edition has some bugs that aren't in the basic version?

i actually found that getting a new video card stopped the CTD's

i used to use a SiS 315e, its like a geforce 256 (terribly slow), now, i just recently got a radeon 9000, which not only stopped the CTD's, but made it look better, and fixed many things, i used to get the screen jumping everywhere, stopped, pixel shaders, beautiful, and it hasnt crashed in 3 hours straight now, so thats a promising sign.

since you use a geforce 4, try using the latest drivers, which can be a risk, or downgrading the drivers, do some experimenting, change the drivers, find out which ones run morrowind the best, whihc ones stops the CTD's, it could even be your version of morrowind.
