deviroz
I´ve started about a week ago planning a mod i want to do: it will be about a sort of "guild" dedicate to teaching of Fire Magic. It will have a vast amount of fire related spells and not all of them will be used to burn enemies like on vanilla skyrim. In the planning of the questline I´ve found a hell of lore mismatchings. And I don´t want to sound rude, but the magic lore in skyrim is just ridiculous. it worked out in oblivion fine, as there were a lot of magicians and magic related stuff going on with the gates to oblivion and that sort of things, and everything was more colorful and nice. But now in the 4th era i think things should be diferent. I mean, the f***ing thalmor f***ed up the empire, and the dummers have problems again with the volcano and the return of you know who. In my opinion thouse things should have lead the people of tamriel to became very sceptical about magic (taking in count everything going on with the most powerful mage races). But instead, it is toletareted openly, which is ok, but i would like to see some guards at the college or something and, if the teachers and students on the college are thouse few who still want to get to in touch with magic, they should look more seriusly and smart, not stupidly mumbujumbing about which elf is prettier or if restoration is a valid school of magic... Come on, this is not Harry Potter... And thinking that thouse people are the most powerful mages in all skyrim, make it really dificult to plan a more mature questline. I wish to see the opinions of this matter of people who are or went through the mage arc of the game.

I play a mage in Skyrim, and agree with many of your points, In Oblivion you really did feel like the master wizards were indeed masters of what they did and respected their characters accordingly. I feel no such reverence for the teachers in Skyrim, apart from Toldfir I guess. I haven't completed the mages guild quest yet as am trying to drag it out a little as I hear it is quite short and don't want the unrealistic feeling of suddenly becoming Arch Mage after 5 minutes. I have only played Oblvion so can't compare with Morrowind but My mage (from an RP point of view and practicle) specialised in Illusion (in Oblivion) but I am finding this is not viable to do in Skyrim. I also felt very powerful in Oblivion and that my skill was justly recognised as being a cut above the other students, so earning my place in the higher ranks. I do not feel powerful in Skyrim, and I wondered if this was due to the lack of being able to specialise in a field. I know practically you can, but lets face it destruction is completely dominant in the magic system. So not to waffle on too much, I think your idea of having a guild that specialises in one area of destruction is great! As this would give that feeling of being a studious dedicated character as oppose to an average joe. As for guards this would also be good I like it when guards tell me off for using magic, (although sometimes it is inappropriate) for instance when I have just saved someone from a seriel killer in town. but as you rightly say it should be viewed with suspicion by the population of Skyrim. Good Luck and hope the mod works well :) I don't know how long it will take to create but will look out for it in the new year.

Vangarrett99
Magic as I know it, is a mystical power channelled from the Weave that comprises of cosmic energies from heaven (to some extend, hell) as well as earthly ones drawn from the land, elements and living organisms. Magic has the ability to alter, transmute, transform, beguile, create, destroy, heal and control. It is omni-potent, it can do everything and anything. It is an unparalled power equal to a deity. The magic I seen in Skyrim is nothing like that. Hell, I can't even cast a spell to levitate or fly up a mountain top? And I can't make polymorph people into animals? I can't make transmute my form into water or gas to fit into the environment. I can't use telekinesis to propel objects around with the power of my will. I can't create mirror images of myself to beguile the enemies. I can't do simple cantrips such as making simple illusions between my palms. All I can do... shoot fire, frost, lightning from my hand. Make iron ore turn to silver. Trap souls, banish daedra, create a light above my head, call forth ethereal weapon, animate dead corpses. I'm not complaining... but it seems a Magic-User of Skyrim can only do this much. Hell, magic should be something much grandeur and potent... :wallbash:
Korodic
I don't feel powerful in magic because I can't craft my own spells >.> firestorm takes way too long for a MASTER of destruction to cast. might as well buy scrolls instead...
