ThePunishingPunisher2
Hey guys I have a request which I would SO much appreciate if you could do.... Basically I was wondering if anyone could make background music that starts playing as soon as you enter an old Dwarven or Dwemer ruin kind of like in the background echoing and fading away. The song can maybe be similar to the song that's sung in the trailer for The Hobbit by Thorin ( - go to 0:50) Also it doesn't always have to be a song, it can also be like maybe old drumming or something i donno... u modders are creative... maybe look into the Lord of the Rings :P Please reply to this topic so i can stop holding my breath lol

Galacticat42
You can replace the music files... No programming needed.
OrphenFire
Maybe no programming needed, but your average Joe will have no idea how to do it. It involves knowing the file paths of each specific song, and also the ability to encode audio into .wxm format. So you have to figure out which music it is you want to replace, then take the .mp3 or .wav of the music you like, convert it to .wxm, and put it into your Data folder with the proper folder structure so it will replace the music in-game. Edit: I'm sorry, it's XWM, not wxm. Lysdexia <.< Edited December 22, 2011 by OrphenFire
ThePunishingPunisher2
I donno though, I dont really just want music just playing normally in the background couse it would just be louder then the rest of the environment, i was thinking rather more dim and mystical. Sort of like fading in a cavern as if the sound is coming from deeeeeeep down but u can never reach it... that type of sound cant just be like found and changed to the wmx or w.e i donno... I guess you can say I just want more sound effects and background sounds in the dwarven ruins with some cool dwarven chants and amazing stuff like in the video above. Edit: You know what... ima go watch lord of the rings and get some more ideas :P Edited December 23, 2011 by ThePunishingPunisher2
cppcooper
Uhmm wouldn't this be illegal? That is to say wouldn't it be a bad idea for such music, surely copyrighted, to be available through a mod on the nexus. I think the mod to ask for would be one that lets you drop your own files into whatever folder and uses that instead of the game's.. but if you are going to be putting files into a folder you might as well check out the mod talk board and get some guidance in making the mod yourself since it is basically just copy pasting the file in the right place and renaming it. ThePunishingPunisher2
well I know about the copyright issues and its NOT what im suggesting more like a sound effects mod.... to just simply add some more sound effects using music files... ive seen mods like this and I dont know how it would be copyright couse its not really a song more like simple sounds. Besides... it takes skill to make the sounds faded and not just playing in the background. Damn, you guys dont seem to understand what im saying. like someone could take the sound of war drums, mining sounds, humming, singing (which is not from an artists song) and just fade the sounds all mystically and echoey and put it in when u walk into an old Dwemer ruin... not like a specific song which can be claimed as copyright. Like unless sound effect you can get from the net are claimed as copyright, then there is an issue, but i know that that's not true because those are just simple sounds effects which have no artist. Otherwise I donno what the issue is here because im not suggesting to put an artists music, just simple sound effects. I just lack the skill to change things with programs such as dimming and making it all echoey so to speak lol. Please, someone help me out here. Actually yes sound effects are copyrighted most of the time, at least for video games they are. In movies or tv shows, i am not entirely sure. If the sound effects are coming from something that has lots of other sounds in it though, it tends to be hard to separate such things. As far as I know unless you have a super computer brain it would be impossible. There may be some apps with built in algorithms to separate different sounds, but that would be some complex analysis.. so i doubt it exists or comes by cheap. If you just want a certain list of sound effects though there are several places you can download open source sounds, you might find what you are looking for on there. Or you could get some materials and ask your local art school nicely if you can use their sound room for an hour. edit: Who the hell would be mining? All the dwemer are either long dead, or long ascended, or perhaps went several thousand years into the future. One way or another they aren't there. ThePunishingPunisher2
Edit: ya... open source sound effects is kind of what I have been suggesting the whole time -_- ... the only issue at the moment is my lack of skill to edit the sounds to seem distant and faded (ghostly). btw, when I say I want the sound effects to sound all mystically and echoey I am basically trying to suggest sounds that seem to be coming from the past (maybe since the Dwemers were fiddling with time, their past and present and future are one but only their sounds connect) not as if there are Dwarves mining behind some stones. Kind of like eerie and creepy as if its distant somewhere but doesn't really have a general direction of origin. Someone help me already :P Edited December 24, 2011 by ThePunishingPunisher2
OrphenFire
I have an idea. And I know how to implement it. I'm already working on a totally original music mod myself, I've done some of the combat music so far. Anyway, there's a perfect chanting music already in Skyrim. It's the Sovngarde chant, so it wouldn't be a copyright issue since it's already in Skyrim. I could copy the Sovngarde chant and digitally edit it to sound distant and highly eerie, then replace some of the atmospheric Dwemer ruins sounds with it. I'll try it and let you know how it turns out. Edit: Actually, instead of replacing them, I think it will make more sense to merge them. So you still have the ambient sound of the ruins in the background, on top of the distant, creepy chanting.
