JarvyJared
About a month ago, I noticed that my game wasn't letting me download new mods. Every time I downloaded a new one, the game would tell me that every other mod was no longer present. When I disabled and uninstalled the new mod, the game worked fine. I assumed that it had to do with me having an old version of the NMM, so I updated it and tried to download a new mod. The same problem occurred; Fallout 4 told me that there was content on my save that was no longer present. I checked my NMM; the plugins were all checked. I tried disabling then re-enabling them all; nothing. I reinstalled NMM; the problem persisted. I tried changing my Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini files' contents to allow mods again. Still nothing happened. I can't figure out what is going on here. Can anyone give me any sort of advice?
kitcat81
Did you try to check plugins.ini that is usually in this directoryC:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Fallout4 There should be a list of your plugins there and each line should start with *I had some problems with this ini. It was deleting my plugins until I set it "read only". And just recently had some problem with it again when the plugin`s title was auto added there but without * and the game could not recognize the mod. Had to add it manually. JarvyJared
I did, but it still said that my mods were missing.
Athanasa
Is it only mods that need the * and not DLCs? Edited November 11, 2016 by Athanasa
damanding
NMM has been having all kinds of weirdness lately with not properly installing/activating mods and it's possible that's your problem. But out of curiosity, how many mods are you using? There is a hard 255 (250?) esp limit and going over it breaks things in odd ways.

But out of curiosity, how many mods are you using? There is a hard 255 (250?) esp limit and going over it breaks things in odd ways.Well, I have 271 active mods, but only 249 active plugins. Does that affect anything?
damanding
Yes, you've hit the limit of active plugins. I suggest googling how to merge plugins and start reducing your plugin count. Unfortunately it's a hard limit that there's no way to break. Edited to add that even though you are a few active plugins below the 255 limit, I've read that just getting that close to it can cause unstable or odd behavior. ceasefire457
Hi guys, I'm having a similar problem to OP's, where my mods are installed properly and are active but will not physically show up in game.i.e scripts won't work, armour won't show up. I've done the everything to do with the *. It's like the games reading the .esm's and .esp's but won't read the new content.i.e the brotherhood heavy armour mod showing up in inventory but not on my player.I have 57 total active plugins. I've tried updating everything, and uninstalling and reinstalling my mods, all to no avail. If anyone can help that would be much appreciated!! OP I hope you get your game back to working order! :)
damanding
ceasefire457 are you using NMM? NMM has been having a lot of issues like this lately. Might try checking the NMM specific forums for help. Of course this assumes that you know about the initial ini tweaks necessary to run mods in the first place. http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Fallout_4_Mod_Installation
ceasefire457
I'll give that a shot, I have the. Ini tweaks and yes I am using NMM, I just hope it's not as bad as my last problem where my game kept ctd, so I unistalled the entire game library and redownloaded it, all just to find that my screen resolution had been changed...yeah...that wasn't my brightest day...xD
