kungfubellydancer
I was just joking about the cyborg thing. But seriously folks, robotic arms is the new fad these days.

ResidentWeevil2077
Actually, robotic limbs aren't quite so sci-fi anymore. Bionic limbs are becoming more and more refined (the technology that is), so in a decade or so, we could be seeing people with mechanical limbs. This kind of technology would be extremely useful for those that have no arms/legs, or have been paralysed somehow.
Storm Raven
One of the hottest fields of research in Neurology today is in mapping the blood flow patterns in the brain. They are doing this with special magnetic resonation imagers (MRI's) and some are approaching the problem with infrared scanners. If they can successfully map where the blood goes during not just during physical but mental activities and then compare this to a database of other known scans, they will be able to connect the brain to the computer without wires. The computer scans the brain determines the activity and converts it into electronic actions. So put your helmets on. --- Of course, what they are not highlighting is the fact that money is being poured into the field by government and defense interests who want this technology in order to initially, be able to tell when someone is telling the truth and when they are not. It has been found that blood flows into two separate areas in the brain in this instance when we are telling the truth and when we are not. Lie detectors are already being used in certain places to determine the guilt or innocence of individuals accused of criminal activities. As volume, increases in the use of these devices the costs to produce them will drop making them more and more commonplace in our society. A useful comparison would be the use of DNA evidence as opposed to fingerprinting. Oh, yes big brother will be watching. Eventually the hope is to be able to determine individual intentions in high traffic settings such as airports. This is not science fiction; it will become a reality in the coming decade. So if you're worried about the lost of your internet privacy, they are way ahead of you. I fully expect someone will ask for links to my references and when they do, know that I am prepared to provide them, however you may not like what you will find. ---In all seriousness, Stormraven------
